I haven't had a chance to get Nosler's new manual yet, can anyone tell me if they have updated the data for 225 gr and 250 gr bullets from #6? Nosler sent me some data a few months back for their 200 gr AccuBond and the charges are less with Varget and RL 15 than they were with 225 br bullets in #6.

Gerry,

For 225 grain bullets, No. 7 has identical loads with No. 6 for W748, RL15, Varget and IMR4064. No. 7 adds maximum loads for RL10X (50.0 g.), IMR8208XBR (55.0 g.), H380 (61.0 g.), A 2495 (53.0 grains--most accurate powder tested) and A2015 (49.0 g.). For 250 g. bullets, No. 7 duplicates No. 6, with the addition of A2015 (48.0 g.), A2495 (51.0 g.), H380 (59.0 g.), Varget (55.0 g.--most accurate powder tested), IMR4064 (55.0 g.), H4895 (55.0 g.) and W748 (58.0 g.).

Thank you Mike, I haven't had a chance to get the manual but plan on doing so soon. I want to get out shooting the Whelen with 225's this weekend but was wondering what changes there were. I'm going to try IMR 8208 and Varget with the 225's first.

That looks to be solid choices, Gerry. 60.5 g. Varget is listed as giving 2800 fps with the 225 g. AB & PT from a 26 inch PacNor tube. Fifty five grains of IMR8208XBR yields a velocity of 2662 fps from the same tube. That should put the smack on about anything you'd meet over there.

Definitely would :) I need to work up my 225 gr AccuBond loads before all the powder and bullets disapear, we still have good amounts of both here.

My first loads for the Whelen were with AA2015 back in '87. Very accurate.

Also - SPS has in the 250g partitions in 35 at the moment for a great price. Had to grab a few more boxes just to keep them on hand.

Who uses a 26" tube on the 35 W? Makes no sense.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, I have a spare Ruger #1B 30-06 with one of those not so good Wilson contract barrels that I've given thought to rebarreling to the .35 Whelen and keeping it at 26". It wouldn't be any longer than a bolt action rifle with a 22" barrel.
