35 Whelen RL15 and 250gr PT

Scotty,

Great shooting! That group is .494" c/c and at 2650 fps, it will be a train wreck on anything it hits.

Sunday at the range shooting steel was alot of fun!

You aren't kidding. Great time with Brian and my son is still smiling. Excellent place to shoot and top notch guys down in that Southern Va!

Thanks Jim, it is a great load. I still need to check yours out. Been busy today. Scotty

Scotty,

What is your COL? I will duplicate it and try it in my 22" barrel.

I am running them at 3.34" Jim. They function excellent through the magazine. I have NEVER messed with seating depth on the bullet for this cartridge. I left the same die setting as what I was using with the 250gr Speer.

Don, this rifle is really shooting well. It has done great with just about everything I have put through it so far to be honest. I feel lucky to have gotten a good one. The only thing done to this rifle was a trigger lightening. Scotty

I got in on a group buy of steel targets on another board. I can't wait to get a chance to try it out! I'm gonna have to work out a couple of loads for my Whelen; one for Partitions, and one for some sort of cheap bullet that shoots to the same POI. And hopefully the same trajectory.

Kurt, the 250gr Speer Spitzer Hot Core is just about the same as the PT. Has the same BC as the PT also. Plus it shoots exactly the same as the PT in my rifle. Pretty good bullet as well. Nothing wrong with the Speer truth be told either. Scotty

Nah, Scotty, I like Speer bullets. Everything I've killed with my Whelen has been with 250 grain Grand Slams. I will definitely look into the Hot Core as a cheap, practice bullet. Partitions are a little spendy for blasting rocks and clays! And steel too, I suppose.

Is Big B going to the pool or shooting steel next time?

Scotty,
I was out Sunday with my Whelen in 90-degree heat. Shot ok clustered a few, just chalked it up to the heat. I know this gun can put them side by side and cut holes with the 225 AB if I have a good day. Tough trying to duplicate that in high temps.

I think he had a blast. He has been telling all of his buddies about shooting the BIG "10mm" and he won't give up on the suppressed 22!

Don, we were in the same heat on Sunday and man, it was nice to have some overhead cover to block the sun, and even then, it was nice to have the spotting scope to check targets rather than having to walk down after every string of fire! Scotty
