I've been kind of tossing the idea around for awhile on purchasing a .357 Sig. Has anybody had experiences with this caliber or the Sig Handgun. Looking at the ballistics I'm impressed and apparently there are PD's that use this caliber and are very satisfied with it. Thoughts?

Very limited experience. One of the officers who worked for me had one as an off duty carry. I probably shot a box of shells through it. The Sig was utterly reliable and pleasant to shoot. Can't really say much more about it. The cartridge never seemed to take off of course but it should prove an effective conversation starter/ stopper.

Sorry, very limited experience. Seems like a worthwhile cartridge, and of course Sig builds a high quality product.
I understand that the .357 Sig was popular with law enforcement in Texas for a time. Not sure they're still using it.

Texas DPS has gone away from the 357 Sig, sadly.
I have one and found it to be an excellent cartridge based on post shooting reports. Mine is a Sig P226 that I carried off duty.
I think it is destined to be a niche round like the .41 Magnum. Since I'm no longer working in corrections I've gone back to the .41 Magnum.

I have owned a Sig P226 in .357 Sig since 1998. Its not the cheapest thing to shoot but its a great caliber. I carry it most often of all of my CCW guns. I have large hands so I got rid of the factory grip and went with a Hogue rubber finger groove grip. As with every P226 I have ever shot, it is EXTREMELY accurate. I killed a raccoon at 35 yards with one shot. I have also upgraded the sights, it now has night sights with a ghost ring rear. My preferred load is the Speer Gold Dot.

I carry a G33 and like the caliber. I reload for it, using a Dillon 550 for the powder drop, seating and crimping. I size the cases In .40, then run them through the .357 die for the shoulder and neck. It's not that difficult as the Internet claims it to be.

Well guys, I bit the bullet and picked up a 226 Sig in .357 Sig. I already have the dies including the .40 caliber dies so the choice wasn't hard. What's interesting and Fotis mentioned it was that all I need to do to switch to .40 caliber from .357 is change the barrels out. Even the magazines work perfectly. I convinced myself that this was a great reason to buy this gun. I have one of the last 226's made before the underside was changed to accommodate a light. (more convenient in a holster). Looking forward to a range test. Will advise as to results.

Finally got to my buddy's range and fired 124 grain Ranier bullets with 6.4 grains of Universal Clays at 10 Yards. Accuracy was excellent, recoil was negligible, and feeding was excellent. I noticed that Sierra is now producing 125 grain Sig V-max bullets with a cannelure that I believe are specifically made for the .357 Sig. I picked up a .40 barrel and will be trying this next. I read up on reloading this cartridge and there are more than a few people that believe it headspaces on the mouth. Called Sierra and found that it definitely headspaces on the shoulder. Actually makes more sense.

Thanks Vince, I haven't seen too much Accurate Arms powder in my area. Hopefully the next gunshow will turn something up.

I thought I would touch bases with the people that wrote on this forum. I've been reloading the .357 Sig for a while now with 125 grain Ranier bullets and Universal clays. My average velocity for target loads is around 1250FPS which has been pleasant and functions the P226 reliably. My go to loads "were" both the Speer Gold dot load and the Federal HST load. I just found something that spun my head around. I picked up a couple of boxes of Underwood ammunition in the 125 grain weight gold dot after reading about them in another forum and my latest gun magazine. I ran them through my chronograph and, are you ready for this, how about 1540FPS with my 4 1/4" barrel. The recoil is definitely more, so is the noise, and accuracy is excellent. This velocity apparently gets the Sig back to where it was originally intended. I've just changed my opinion on what I'm going to use for defensive carry. They produce ammunition for a lot of different calibers and on their website they show velocities achieved. I checked the brass after firing and everything was fine.

AFG270, yes I did. The forum website had a problem with my original moniker "bigrifleman" and I switched over to diverdown. The problem however seems to have been corrected so I went back to the original moniker. I have a P226 and I did purchase the extra .40 S&W barrel to go with it. I ran the underwood ammo through my Oehler35P and got a nice surprise. You'll find most factory loads hover between 1350-1400FPS. ( I ran the Sig loads and Federal loads through the chronograph). When you pull the trigger on the Underwood ammo you'll know it.

I picked up some Speer 125 gr TMJ on sale at Midway and loaded them with Universal, CFE Pistol, and Longshot. Longshot gave my the best speed, low SD and was very accurate. I like the Universal load for practice though, I had an average of 1200 fps and Universal is very clean in my S&W.

You can smoke em as Vince said with Accurate 9. Perfect powder for that cartridge. I load 13 gr w a 125 Gold Dot and it averages at 1450. Safe and accurate in my G31.
On the Underwood. They load some terrific cartridges. Want to have fun get a 10mm Glock and the Underwood 180s. Let's the 10mm show what they made it for IMO. You are correct in that their 357 Sig ammo is top notch.
