I am just starting to reload this bullet and it is proven to be the most accurate bullet out of my G2 with the 375 JDJ rifle barrel. It is a factory TC barrel.

I was just wondering if Nosler has worked on any data with this cartridge in a rifle barrel. Almost all the published data is for pistol length barrels, making it hard to figure out where to start. Currently I am working up a load with the 260s and IMR 4064.

Any other powder suggestions for this bullet weight with the rifle length barrel? I am looking for the maximum punch/accuracy combo within pressure limits for the G2. If I were to get a 375 barrel for the Encore, I would probably go .376 Styr with the same bullet.

Thanks,
Brian

I`m not Nosler but the common belief is the same powders that give the best velociies in a longer rifle barrel will also do so in a shorter pistol barrel. I`d think the reverse should hold true and the better powders listed in the data for a handgun that you have will work best in the rifle. As for new unlisted powders, I would check with the powder manufactures and see if they have used any of thier powders with the cartridge/bullet wgt you want to load.

IMR 4064 is working best in the barrel so far with the 260AB. Today I shot some loads up to 48.5Grns of IMR 4064 and the accuracy is improving the harder I push it. The max for 270 gr bullets is 49.2grns, so I probably have another grain to go to reach max with the 260 AB. From here I am going to load some more at 48.5, some at 48.7, and 48.9 and compare accuracy. I should still be a half grain or so below max, which is about as far as I want to push it with the G2 action.

My groups are right around 1" at 100yrds with no pressure signs with 48.5 grains. Not sure about velocity, I don't have a Chrono, need to get it out there with a friends chrono once I establish the most accurate load. Wife won't let me buy a chrono until we finish moving. By the way, the recoil in the little contender carbine is getting really stiff. I shot it side by side with a Rem 700 30-06 with 180s pushed almost to max and the 06 is a pussycat compared to the JDJ in the light carbine.

Good shooting,
Brian
