Well, I wimped out and bought a mere 416 Rem instead of the Wby. It's a BDL with a wood stock and blue finish 24" barrel. I need some brass for it and that's been a problem but I'm pretty excited at the prospects. I can't believe I finally figured out how to add a picture

Congrats. I'm a big fan of the Remington 'Classic' stock design, much more so than the Weatherby stock. And I can't tell you how much the cost of Weatherby brass/ammo annoys me. Not that a .416 Remmie is gonna be cheap.

Congratulations, Greg. That will work for bear, though it may not be enough rifle for elk.

Greg,

Congratulations on the 416 Remington! Very nice looking rifle.

Greg, AWESOME 416 buddy! I like that alot. Can't wait to hear about your load work. The 416 is getting some decent thought towards imy big bore hunting rifle that everyone needs one of, right? Scotty

I don't know about that, maybe at the minimum an adequate bear gun, definitely better for pronghorn and little CA blacktail deer.

Anyhow, nice rifle Greg.

I was hoping you'd build a 416RUM, so someone would have the reamers and dies already figured out - if they don't already - so I could get one built.

You are probably correct. Certainly a more conservative view.

I did find a 416/300RUM for sale on Guns America. Wanted like $1150 or so. Guess it was originally a 416 Rem Mag. To bad the picture wasn't working.

In another thread I made mention of a 416-375RUM, as it would be easier to neck up 375 brass.

Plus, just a quick look at Midway or Midsouth, 416 Rem Mag is pretty scarce! Might be a deciding factor! Surprised Winchester chambered their Safari grade to a cartridge with so few options. Scotty

Congrats ont he new rifle Greg,,,,,and I doubt very much there's an animal on this planet, that when hit with a well placed shot, is going to snicker and say,, that was no Weatherby,,,only a Remington .416

Thanks everyone "BUT" There's trouble in paradise. GunsAmerica seems to work a little different than Gunbroker.
I called the seller and was told I was a backup offer. It seems that even though I pressed the confirmed to buy button that doesn't close the auction. I was more than miffed  My options are still open ! Anyone know of a 416 Rem or used 416 Wby for sale?
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

That seems a bit chintzy. One would think that a deal was a deal. Maybe it is a good buy; or maybe you should say "good-bye."

Thanks DrMike. I don't think I'll persue that site or rifle anymore. There's a Rem KS in 416 Rem but it doesn't have a buy price, just an unknown reserve. It's S/S with 22" ported barrel. I looked them up and it's the mountain rifle version and they run a little over $2100 MSRP. What do you think?

I've been watching the 416 Rigbys but I'm not sure about the expense of feeding one. Maybe I should check them out.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Greg

Greg, it may be for the best. Since brass is so scarce and you would have to hunt for it, it might be easier to get a Rigby or Wby mag. Good luck in your search. Hope you find the one you want. I am going to be watching you close, as I think a 375/416 is in my future. Plus, if I get something similar to you, it will make load work alot easier! Scotty

Sounds like it's time to build a 416-375RUM. 375RUM brass can be found, but the expense of a custom barrel, dies, and no load info may make it not worth it to some people.

Was looking at the PAC-NOR site for a new .243AI barrel and noticed that they make a 416-375RUM barrel. I think i just found a start to my Cape Buff rifle!

Pac Nor barrel on a M70 or a Ruger would be a shooting son of a gun! Plus, you would have built the classic controlled round feed dangerous game type rifle! What length action do you need for a RUM? A true Magnum (H&H-WBY) length? Scotty
