44 magnum 300 gr load

Guy and Scotty nailed it.

I can shoot my 240 + 19grs 2400, 240 + 5grs Bullseye and 310 + 21grs H110 with my original front sight because the 310's are moving so fast. I tried the 310 @ 1000fps and I did not have enough front sight to make them work, the rear was bottomed out. I started standing on the powder measure and bumped up the speed and walla!

I guess I see what some of you are saying. But some are saying because of the barrel lift and slower bullet...some are saying just because.

I had a SBH and ran 300's with h110 before and I had zero trouble with the stock sight. It was all fine. I had lost all my record keeping hence why I am asking some of these questions.

Won't know if you need the taller sight until you try shooting some of those 300's. Sometimes it's necessary, sometimes it's not. I've had five different .44 mags over the years and the 300 gr bullets either required me to bottom out the elevation adjustment on the rear sight, or swap to a taller front sight because there wasn't enough elevation adjustment.

That said, the 300's usually shoot great!

I've still got a few hundred 300 gr cast bullets though I seldom use them anymore. Found I was shooting right through mule deer with a conventional 240 gr JHP factory load so my interest in the 300's tapered off a bit. These days I'm satisfied shooting 240 & 250 gr bullets.

Fun topic though. Big bore handguns are wonderful tools & toys.

Let us know how yours works out - may not need the taller sight - or maybe you will. My current .44 will need a taller front sight if I want to use the 300's.
