45/70 or 375 H&H?..Trade?

Looking forward to the pictures, the 260 gr Ab is an excellent bullet. Congrats on your new gun :)

Excellent! Nice to have another .375 H&H Number One here!

I've tried several different loads but these two are very good:

260 gr Nosler AccuBond @ 2620 fps via 69 grains of Reloader 15. This is a mild load, but accurate and effective.

300 gr Nosler Partition (or any other 300 gr bullet I've tried) at about 2550 fps via 75 grains of H4350. I've killed no game with it, but it's accurate and powerful. Recoil is up a notch from the 260 gr load, but not bad.

The 235 gr Speer is a good practice bullet and a buddy tells me they work great on mule deer or elk.

The 270 gr Hornady is accurate, but seems a little fragile in my tests. I suspect it works well enough on mid-sized game.

If you haven't had a Number One before, be aware that sometimes the eye relief on a scope may seem difficult to achieve. A lot of guys like to move the scopes farther rearward on these rifles. That's not hard to do. Let me know if it gives you any trouble along those lines.

Congrats on what should prove to be a fine rifle.

Guy
Well do Guy, thank you, Lou :)

I have a set of 375 H&H dies, I use to load for a buddies 375... It really hurts to have those dies just sitting around unused most of the year! HA!

Good luck Lou, I think your going to have fun with it.

270WSM and 375 H&H! That is about as nice a 2 rifle pair as you can get!

Thanks pal!..I hope to bring both to newfy with me, i'm flying out as you know Scotty, maybe Dean can take 1 or both for me?..he's driving, and about 5 hrs from my place, if not i well have to decide on which one to take?..The 270wsm is ready to rock, but maybe the 375 H&H with 260gr acccubonds get the naud?..Lou

Pretty big toss up right there. You have so much confidence in that 270, it'd be hard to not take. Getting new rifles ready to hunt on short notice is sometimes tough. I know my 338 ran me through the ringer trying to get it ready for Idaho, but I would bet the 375 comes along pretty quick. Seems most of them are very accurate from the get go.

I know pal..this deal just came along, so I jumped on it!..Leaving in about 1/2 hr to make the deal, well keep you posted for sure, either way, both rifles well find their way to the east coast Scotty..Lou

Sweet, what are you going to scope the 375 with Lou? The Burris you had on the 45-70?

Sounds like a cool rifle. I have always wanted a 375 something.

Good luck Lou. Its going to be a sweet deal for sure. Maybe pick up a third box of ammo so you are all set for sighting in, practice and enough ammo for the hunt.
Those Ruger #1's are usually shooters so I would think you will be set to go on your hunt in short order.

"Excellent! Nice to have another .375 H&H Number One here!"
Guess I have to ake it number three. 8) I've had mine for about 7 or 8 years now and it gets out every once in a while. I'm a bit of a cast bullet junkie so 49.0 gr. of IMR4895 capped by an RCBS #37-250-FN that casts a 275 gr. bullets in my alloy is just about all I run through it these days. Recoil is about 30-06 level and accuracy is pretty good, usually running about 1.25" at 100 yards. Brass lasts quite a long time as I've loaded 20 cases closeto 20 times. generally I anneal and full length size at every fifth loading, only neck sizing for four rounds. Nice thing about cast in a #1 is you dont have to crimp the bullets which is why I think I've gotten such long life from that brass. Brass is Winchester, primer is the Winchester standard and I do use a 1 grain tuft of Dacron to hold the powder next to the primer. I've never chronographed the load but estimate it to be around 2000 to 2100 FPS. Bullets were sized to .376".
A neat fun and speedloading practice load.

Scotty, you hit the nail on the head pal! :)
Jim, I did just that pal, 2 boxes 260gr nosler accubonds (no charge)..1 box of cheap ammo to get me started, and then fine tune with the accubonds
Well post pics shortly, the rifle is SUPER MINT, all I can say is, I wish I had one years ago, I love it!..Lou

Thanks Jimmy :) ..I'm crossing my fingers for sure, both well make the hunt, but i'm leaning towards the 375 H&H if it shoots well, i'm sure it well bro!

Lou, that Number One .375 H&H looks like a twin to the 9.3x74R, Number One that was delivered to my FFL on last Friday. I hope that both of them shoot as good as they look!
