Well, I know it says 45-70 at the top, but I wanted to post a target of Joel's 300WSM! What a great shooting rifle (for a Remington)!

Brian almost shot a 5 shot group that would have been excellent but one errant round came out. Overall though, that rifle shoots like it is on fire with 180gr AB's and Joel hasn't even cranked up the steam on the cartridge yet. Really fired me up to get my own 300WSM. What an awesome cartridge. All you guys looking for 300WM's, give a good look at the 300WSM. No belt, recoil seems to be a little more mild than my 300's and man, it seems very accurate. RL22 is just a killer powder in it as well. Here is the group

Anyhow, his 264WSM is just flat out AWESOME! It is a truly awesome rifle and again, any of you all looking for a 6.5 FAST rifle, check it out. Speeds are going to be as good or probably better than my 264WM and much better cases to work with.

Now, the 45-70 shooting we did. Brian's 45-70 with a 24" barrel really likes those 300gr PT's. Seems to zing them over 2400 pretty easily and shoots really well. Here is an initial group with them.

Here is probably the best group I have EVER fired out of any rifle. This was Brian's XLR with the 500gr HDY at around 950FPS. What a pleasant load to shoot. I am talking very little recoil and just pleasant and accurate. Thinking I need to try it out in my Guide rifle as well.

Anyhow, I got my 45-70 roughly tuned into the 200 and 300 yard mark with the 350gr Hornady. I truly think the Happy Trigger will tighten up my long range groups alot. It is tough to work with such a heavy trigger at longer ranges. Anyhow, here is my 300 yard target. Not great, but a good start I think. Those are clocking about 2100-2125 out of my rifle. Very good bullet as well. Not quite as awesome as the 300gr PT, but it would be more than enough or any moose or elk walking I think. Now, get on Brian to post his pictures of the 300gr PT, that went through 8 jugs and skipped off the 9th! Scotty

Excellent groups there. You do need a 300 WSM just to keep that 270 WSM and the 7mm WSM company. Just wait until you try a 325 WSM. Yeah, you'll have to have it as well.

Mike, that 300 isn't very far off after shooting Joels. They are some sweet cartridges to me. They just shoot well and for a decent amount of powder as well. Very impressed with his 300 and 264WSM's. Again, I don't need to be sold on the WSM's. They are awesome to me and a hunters dream.

Still not totally sold on the 325 as my Whelen and 338 would fight for attention, but I am not discounting it in the least, I just love the Whelen that much!.

Thanks Fotis. Gotta love those 45-70's that shoot one holers! Scotty

Wow, nice shooting Scotty...

A 300 WSM AND a 325 WSM would complete your WSM collection. Just saying.....

That 45-70 500 gr sub sonic load is impressive!
Nice shooting at 300 yds, that group is minute of elk.

Thanks Jim! I do like that 300. Joel did well with that rifle for sure. Even for a Remmy, I would take it!

That 45-70 load is just awesome. Can't wait to try them myself. Be a great load for my son to shoot and just have a helluva good time. No recoil and plain fun to shoot! Scotty

That subsonic Hornady load would be just awesome on game at close range. There is something gratifying about accuracy such as that.

Yeah! And then you can start on the Super Shorts!

Good shooting guys. Looks like elk, deer and anything else in season is in serious trouble this fall!

Scotty, how is your .338 shooting with the new stock? Just curious, I haven't heard much since the first range day.

Great groups BTW with both the .45-70 and the .300 WSM. The .300 WSM, Browning Medallion which my son has now shot some phenomenal groups for me at 200 yards with IMR 4350. For me though, owning a .340 Weatherby, I figured my son needed his own elk rifle when he moved to Wyoming. So he has the .300 WSM now.

Thanks for the help so far with that subsonic load Doc.

Great groups guys, a great day at the range. If I do not have to go back to work I will be shooting again later this week. The fire gods may send me out again any day now. Again great groups, the elk are scared already. !

Brian,

Great performance with the Partition. It'll work just fine to take elk this fall. I'm pulling for you fellows.

I can't wait to see what that bullet does to a deer at those Speeds Brian. I think it should be dramatic. Scotty

You may see it sooner than you think. No more venison in the freezer!
