Hi Everyone,
Since I live in MA, my options are limited as far as handguns go. All new Colt pistols are banned, which is unfortunate because I really like the 1911 feel. One gun that is on the "approved list" is the Smith SW1911. Does anyone have one and if so, do you like it?

All Colt pistols that were manufactured after 1997 (I think that's the correct year) are illegal in MA! From what I understand, gun manufacturers have to submit their guns for "testing" by the state and if they don't or they don't "pass", they are illegal to purchase. I pretty sure that Colt told the state of MA to go ... It gets worse, any new gun you purchase must be on the approved list, which I will include below:

This roster has been compiled in accordance with M.G.L. c.140; §131¾ and 501 CMR 7.00. It contains weapons determined by Massachusetts approved independent testing laboratories to have satisfactorily completed the testing requirements of M.G.L. c. 140; §123; clauses 18th; 19th; 20th; and 21st. The reports resulting from said tests were reviewed by the Gun Control Advisory Board and those makes and models listed herein were subsequently approved by the Executive Office of Public Safety as having complied with the statutory handgun testing provisions of M.G.L. c. 140; §123.

Additions to this roster are likely to occur periodically; and dealers and law enforcement personnel should always utilize the most recent roster for purposes of determining statutory compliance. The Approved Firearms Roster posted on the Executive Office of Public Safety web site - http://www.state.ma.us/eops/gun_roster2002.htm - and on the Firearms Record Bureau web site - http://www.mass.gov/chsb/FRB.html - will contain the most recently approved models.

Hi Everyone,
Since I live in MA, my options are limited as far as handguns go. All new Colt pistols are banned, which is unfortunate because I really like the 1911 feel. One gun that is on the "approved list" is the Smith SW1911. Does anyone have one and if so, do you like it?

Mike I have had the pleasure of shooting a S&W 1911. It functioned perfectly. The sights seemed to impact a little low to me, but that is easily fixed either with adjustment or possibly different ammo.

Well I desided to have some work done on my pre-ban colt combat commander. I had it "Kimberized." In addition, I just bought a nice M&P 45! I'll be happy for a while.
