Howdy!!!
Does anyone have any good recipes for 55 gr V_Max? in a 22-250.
I am new to this load and would like to see what it can do. I have heard that we may soon be able to use this caliber on deer here in TN, Personally I think it is too small for deer but we do have a good amount of song dogs around my house. I will also be using 55 gr Nosler BT,
but the V-Max were available now.
thanks in advance.

Varget, H4895, H414 and the best of all H380.

Viht N-140 I'll look at the load spec when I get home. You don't want to used the B-tip or V-max on deer however!! I've shot numerous yotes with the 55gr B-tip ( sorry for saying this Nosler, but bullet performance is different evrey time. From major explosion to the bullet still togeteher and only lost a half grain or so ) I've switched to the Blitz-Kings on yotes and love-em. B-tips and A.B's for everything else!!

36grns of Viht N-140 / CCI BR primers / 55grn B-Tips or Blitz-Kings works very well in mine.
Obviously shot placement will be everything...the .250's are awesome rounds...good luck

Thanks Powerstroke! I'll try that load. I don't have any Viht yet,(but now I have a reason to get some 8) ) Pop, Will the loads in the nosler manual work for the hornady bullets as well?

You can use the Nosler load data with the Hornady bullets, just start low and work up.

JDMAG....
Only issue with the Viht powders is if you don't have another gun to try it in, the two lbs cans are somewhat expensive if it "doesn't shoot well" in yours....
Good Luck

Can it be used in say .243? That is the only other small round that I have. I do have a couple of friends that have .223 that don't reload, and a younger friend that wants every thing, so maybe.... I could talk him into trying a new caliber and reloading for him.

I have a .260 & 7-08 that I've used the Viht in as-well.....the .260 is ok with it, my 7-08 is a 4350 fan!
I like the Viht due to it meters easy, and is a fairly clean buring powder in my experience.

JDMAG I have seen very good groups out of my 22-250 using around 30 grains of IMR 3031 & the 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. I have been told that H380 is the powder to use in the 22-250, but I have not tried any yet.
I am currently trying out the Hornady 55gr V-Max with Varget. I have not seen results as good as with the Nosler/3031 combo as of yet.
I am from the S.E. part of TN myself. I heard that TN was going to change the caliber rule for deer hunting to any centerfire. I will have to check the TWRA website & see how it is actually worded. If a person was going to use a centerfire 22 I would not recommend a varmint bullet. I believe Nosler make a Partition that would be better suited for task.

I agree with the non use of varment rounds in a .22 cal. My 22-250 is just for ground hogs and songdogs,( if I ever get the chance to hunt anything again.this work crap is getting in the way of my pleasure)
I have gotten .5 inch, 3 shot groups at 3560fps using varget and 55 grain VMAX.
That was at 35.5 gr of varget.
Thanks for in info!
