6.5 mm 125 gr PT

David,

It is always interesting to see recovered bullets. They performed about as expected, with the exception of the E-Tip. I would have anticipated more weight retention.

Dr. Mike I think you might be slipping just a little bit and did not catch my error!  My only excuse is I might have been in a hurry completely forgot that the 90 gr. E-Tip is NOT 100 grs! That's why it's called a 90 gr. E-Tip and not a 100 gr. E-Tip! So, how does 98.8% weight retention sound? :p My bad!

Oh and Scotty, it was just slightly cloudy with a small breeze and a very comfortable 53 degrees when I went to shoot at 10:30 AM! :p

A bit? Try "a lot!" That is more in line with what I would have anticipated. Now I can relax and get on with my day.

I was so eager to do this Joel that I could not wait to drink that much milk and bought cheap gallon jugs of drinking water. They were 99 cents each. I have some left over now to actually drink. I know with 24 of them that comes pretty darn close to $24.00 and a rear end chewing from the wife, kinda like when you guys slip home one of those new rifles you were all talking about! :p  I can try and say I just needed to know how these bullets work and this is a scientific experiment to determine their quality and performance. I certainly do not want to use anything less than a perfect bullet and chance wounding an animal. Yeah I know, I've never shot Nosler's before and have no idea how they would perform!

It was a balmy 95 here in Virginia today. I figure I would rather sweat and shoot, then not shoot at all!

Great job with the bullet recovery. Scotty

JD338 I might upset Scotty here just a touch, but I sure like the looks of the 6.5 Remington magnum. It is a great looking cartridge that sure performs well and should have been a lot more popular than it was! You need to get to drinking (milk) so we can have some of those pictures that you promised at 200 & 300 yards. Just my guess, and I could be wrong  but at 200 and 300 I would not be surprised that you have to use a couple more jugs of water. The bullet will have slowed a little and the bullet expansion will not be as great so the frontal bullet area will be less which probably will mean more penetration. Curious to see how it shakes out.

Maybe Joel if you sent a 6.5 Remington magnum seated (no powder no primer) with that great looking Partition maybe Tom would do a "cartridge porn" photo for you to print out and put into a picture frame in your loading room!! He's not cheap but he is reasonable. I sent a little Huckleberry jam and syrup for him to try in the package with my cartridges that I shipped his way to sweeten the pot a little. He does a great job with them. Tom are ya listening??

I hope you might have started something here and once in a while guys will do the water jug test so we can see how some other bullets and cartridges shooting them perform.

Never, I remember sending Jim about 3 ads for the 6.5RM when he just murmured the thought of owning one. I like that one alot as well, but being as I wasn't ready to jump back into bed with Remington at the time, I went the WM route. I do think Joel is going to have a true ACE with his 6.5WSM though. I really think it will be a better overall round, even more so than my 264WM. The WSM's seem to be more accurate with less fuss. Plus, they have all the capacity they need.

Can't wait to kill some more milk jugs. Scotty

I have to agree with you whole heartedly on the 6.5 125g Partition. I kept trying to get the 130 AccuBond to shoot in my .260 and when I finally got it to .8 I was blowing primer pockets after 1 or 2 loadings and getting flat primers.

The first box of bullets I bought for my .260 was the 125 Partition loaded a couple groups worth and was shooting 6-8" groups I put them on the shelf to rot. Later I free floated and bedded that little .260 and when I had the problems with the 130AB I said what the hell I will try them again. I am shooting .6 and .7 groups all day long over H4831sc and cci br2 primers.

I actually used the 125g Partition to kill that deer in the picture on the 6.5 club thread.

They shot pretty well in the Nosler ammo. Still not convinced I shouldn't go back to them in my own loads. They look like they would be dynamite in the 264 as well. Too many great choices. Scotty

Looking at those 6mm E-tips,,,,if I ever decided to ust the XP100 6mm AI for antelope or deer, I might have to see what they'll do. Not sure how they would act out the 7.5" twist however,,,,can't hurt to try sometime.

I am currently using 125gr partitions on depredation kills loaded 3100 out of a .264. Very mild load that is shooting great. Longest kill so far is 550 yards. More later. reflex264

Roy,

Welcome back buddy!
Looking forward to the details on the field performance of the 6.5mm 125 gr PT.

Hey man! Life has been comlicated lately. Since my dad had his last heart surgery in August we have had to take care of him. Now we have to fight his ex-wife. I am ready to start shooting something again. I will try to get the report on the 140 AccuBond done up as well. reflex264

Man, I am looking forward to that. I have just about decided to do 140's in my 264 exclusively. I figure I have the case room to push them pretty quick, might as well use it. Not sure if I am going PT or AB yet, just kinda depends on which ones I can get first. Scotty
