Wow! No that sir is a rifle I would leave alot of others behind to hunt with! That is beautiful! Congrats to your buddy. That is one very sweet looking rifle! Man, whoever put it together really does some excellent work. I love that stock! Scotty
I'm sure Roger would be pleased and flattered by your comments guys, he doesn't 'Do' computers at all and never looks at forums. However, he's had to wait until his mature years to be able to spend his cash in this rifle.
The rifle was made up from components R selected, with the barrel, trigger & action sourced from different locations, then put together by Precision Rifles in Scotland. This was the shipped to the stockmaker (Trevor Proctor Rifles) who worked on the stock blank R had bought from some chap in California. The blank originally came from Turkey.
There are a couple af small gliches to be sorted out, but nothing major. I'm impressed with the cartridge, which at present is being loaded with the Hornady 129gn SST bullet. Frankly, I don't see a need to change the bullet. The combination as it stands seems inherrently accurate with the first trial load putting in .75" groups at 100 yds. Those are now tightened down to 1/4" MOA
and should get to 1/8" MOA in due course.
Stay well boys. Cheers, ET
The SST is a fine bullet that will get the job done. Again, congratulate Roger. I understand about waiting until your mature years to build what you want.
Just discovered there's an issue with the breech dimensions.
It seems the case trim length for the cartridge is listed at 1.843"...however a case at this length when fired & resized will not chamber and therefore must be trimmed a further .010" shorter.
Also, there is real difficulty full length sizing a fired case. The case doesn't want to go all the way into the die.
We're trying to find the cause of this problem and rectify it.
The chamber is a custom job, so a talk with the gunsmith in the morning may/should throw some light on the matter.
Things that make you go Hmmmmm !! :?
Cheers ET
It does sound as though the finish reamer was not inserted quite enough to finish the job. Beatiful rifle, I expect your friend Roger will get his issues resolved. It sounds as though the rifle shoots quite accurately.
It may well be that the reamer hasn't gone quite far enough. As far as we can work out, we're .008" shy...but working around it by trimming the cases .010" shorter at 1.833" for the time being.
Undoubtedly this will be resolved satisfactorily...it was just odd trying to understand what was going on.
Cheers, ET
