Picked up a Browning A Bolt in 260 Rem with 22" barrel a few weeks ago. I'm torn between 125gr and 140gr Partitions. Any pros or cons for one vs the other. It will be used for hunting Whitetails in Georgia.

John,

I wouls stay with the 125 gr PT for deer.
I recovered a couple from water jugs at 100 yds. Shot from my 6.5mm Rem Mag with a MV of 3050 fps, they were recovered in the 5th jugs.

The 130 gr AB would be another excellent choice too. Recovered this on at 100 yds in 5th jug. MV 3050 fps.

Shot this cull buck last year at 75 yds through the shoulders with the 130 gr AB, DRT with an exit the size of a quarter.

I would think either would serve you well for Georgia WT. I'm focused on 140 grain PTs in my own 260, though I may drop down to the 130 grain AB because my grandchildren will be using this rifle. However, I wouldn't hesitate using either of these bullets, even on cow elk at reasonable ranges.

I wouldn't even think about the 140 in the 260. It is long enough that it starts crowding powder space. The 125 will give you better velocity and on game that is going to equal better knockdown in the 260 size case. In my experience the Partition likes to be driven fast for optimum performance.

I have done well with 140 gr bullets for deer and bears they work great for both but the 125 gr PT will be great for whitetails so that's the one I would choose if I were you.

You can't go wrong witha 125gr NPT! It would be and is my choice, in any .264/65 round for deer. Too, I agree up to and including cow elk.

Here are a couple recovered 6.5 bullets from my 264....

For the 260, I am not sure you could go wrong with the 130 AB or 125 PT. Both look really capable to me.

+1 Partitions or Accubonds in those weights.

I think it depends on your twist. I have a .260 with a 1in9 I have tried to shoot the 130s and 140s but just never shot as well as 120bt and the 125 Partition

Thanks for info guys. 125gr Partitions it is. Only 8 months until I can try it in the woods. Any powders your rifles seem to prefer?

I'm a firm believer in letting the rifle tell me what it likes... any of the bullets will work for WTs. I probably wouldn't even be scared of using 120 Ballistic Tips.

My 6.5 Swede shoots the 120 BTs into very acceptable groups. I've taken one muley with it, complete pass through and the buck just wandered around a few seconds before expiring. The massive amount of red on the snow let me know that a follow up shot was not necessary.

120 ballistic tip is awesome on thumping deer out of my 6.5X55 Swedes and it shoots in little bitty hole groups. H-4350 works really well in the 260 Rem.
