64 gr. Nosler Bonded Solid Base Blems

Shot the 64 BSB blems today. TAC was kind of a dud until I got near max..But 25.5 seemed to be good at 3018 across the MagnetoSpeed. Shot 8 shots at 100 yards (orange target) and 219 yards (shoot-n-See)..The hole touching the orange in the shoot-n-see is the last shot when I used the proper BDC hash on the scope, so I discarded that one from the group. What surprised me was this is about 68 fps faster than the same charge from sierra's data with their 63 grain bullet from the same barrel length.

You may have a shooting load on your hands. I have found that loads built with TAC do like to stretch the legs. Pushing for max tends to tighten groups.

Discarding the one, it's about 1.7" @ 218 yards (200 meters) These are going to be put to use shooting hogs in the head, so I'd say they will work just dandy..They were shot from an AR with a 2x-7x Nikon prostaff..I'm going to see how they do in my bolt guns to really judge them.

Stainless barrel?

I found Rem 7 1/2 worked best w 64 grain BSB using CFE223.

4150 CMV 20" 1:7.7 Hybrid 3R rifling, midweight sporter..CFE223 is on my list, but hard to source locally lately. I've gone to 7 1/2's for just about all my 223 rounds. At the moment I'm getting ready to work up some with H335 to try out hopefully tomorrow.

My Tikka likes Varget with the 64 BSB. .6” or .7”, 3006 FPS.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't have great results with Varget..Not sure what it is, but I've tried it in several applications where it's supposed to be THE powder and I couldn't get it to perform like other people do. It's never performed poorly, but something usually bests it..Maybe I just have a dark Varget curse on me.

A guy on 24hourcampfire posted about working up this load in his Tikka, with great success. He really spent a lot of time creating the most accurate load for that rifle.

Then he listed the rifle for sale. For a really good deal. So I bought it. Duh.

Let's just say you won't find the recipe in any reloading book, it's a little warm, but safe in my rifle.

that is a great load.

Mine is not as accurate but decent. (1 to 1 1/2 depending on rifle).

I settled on 27.0 grains CFE 223. this gave me a bit over 3,000 fps from a polygon Lothar Walther barrel w Wylde chamber 1:8 twist, 20 inch. this is slightly better than Winchester Ranger ammo used by FBI (2970 fps).

SAAMI max in Nosler manual is only 26.0 grains and 2750 fps from a 16 inch, 2860 fps in 20 inch.

Next best load was Winchester 748 at about 2,800 fps in 16 inch. Powder charge dependant on which primer used.

Both loads are very primer sensative. I tried Winchester, CC!450 and Remington 7 1/2. Remington by far the most stable.

PS I tried H335 and it was too fast burning in my rifles. Only got about 2700 fps with it but it was an old can of powder and may not be indicative. IMR 4895 and Varget too fast burning also. BLC2 and RL15 showed promise.
