These must have a thin jacket! I can't get them above 3750 without them exploding on me. I was trying to get them to shoot out of my 9.25 twist savage 243. I got 500 of them to shoot yotes with, hoping to be in the 3900-4000 fps range. First load out was 2.5" and doing 3730. 2.5" is about as bad as this gun has ever shot anything so I was not impressed right out of the gate. Go up .5 grains of H380 and only one makes it to the target. At this point my buddy is starting to poke fun at me. I go up another .5 grains, and one of them hits the dirt 25 yards short of the 100 yard target, and the other two I still don't know where they went. My buddy is now rolling on the ground laughing at me. Needless to say I'm not to happy about it. Whats the point of shooting a 55gr. 6mm bullet if you have to keep it under 3750?

I called Nosler and asked them about it. I got an explination about their jacket thickness being the culprit, and suggested that I just shoot them under 3750 :x That is not going to happen I can tell you that much. I'll be switching to something else that can take the heat.

Does anybody know was there a warning about the SHOTS bullets not liking much twist (not that a 9.25 is much), and high speeds that I missed?

Just for the record the 72 gr Verminator gave me the same problem.

That's a crappy problem to have. For the record, my buddy shoots 65gr V-max's outta his at way over published max. They shoot really good too.

The 55gr Nosler BT shoots really well out of this gun at dang near 4000. I was just bummed the SHOTS can't take it. If I only had 100 or so sitting around I wouldn't be to worried about it, but I now have 491 55gr SHOT bullets sitting on my bench that I have no clue what to do with.

jmad,
Sellum on the forum. Can't hurt, and better then being stuck with something you can't use.
Just my 2 bits. Inflation.

Jake,
I bet somebody with a 1 in 10" 243 could use them to full potential. :( Sorry to hear about your ill luck. I'd buy 'em from you but my 6-284 is a 1 in 9.

I've shot these out of my 243 AI at 4200+fps and they hold up just fine.
throttled them back a little, my standard load gives me 4100 fps

That's an unacceptable answer to me, I wouldn't bee too pissed about 100.... but to have several hundred.... not cool. I've looked at them a number of times, and I don't ever recall seeing a velocity ceiling on them. Pretty crappy customer service right there. Hope someone from Nosler is watching here.... and can make this better.

Not to hi-jack but I am using these in my 6X45mm and was wondering if anyone knew what the B.C. was on these babies?

Welcome to the board!! I'm not sure but someone will be along that does or if not we will find out for you.

Re: my post in the Rifles forum in "I FINALLY gave up..." I tried the SHOTS bullets in one of my .243s, a Remington 798 (one of SIX .243s that never worked out for me). I managed to get well over 3850 fps out of them and they hit the target, but that's about all I can say for them. In their defense, the rifle didn't really like any other bullet any better. I sold those puppies, but I don't remember where! I didn't sell you those, did I jmad??

I have tried them in (3) 6mm calibered guns so far and they have shot good in two and one not so good. What's funny is the gun that I thought they would shoot in for sure because of a 1/14 twist they were dismal but maybe I have not tried the correct powder yet. My 1/12 twist 6X45mm and my 6mmDTi AR shoot them well but I have only pushed them to 3600fps in the DTi.
Thanks for the welcome nvbroncrider and hopefully someone will chime in with that B.C. on these little bullets..... I would just take a WAG that it's in the .180 bc range but it would help if I knew for sure.???

I emailed Nosler and they responded saying that the B.C was .252 on the 6mm 55 grain SHOTS. That surprised me from just looking at them. I am wondering now if they did not give me the B.C. on the .22 caliber 55gr SHOT bullets which I have heard they make.

Nice to hear that someone else shares my pain with the Nosler 55 gr 6mm SHOTS bullets. Except that I have over 900 of them left. My experience with them started with a Stevens in 243 with the same 1 in 9 twist. When the bullets actually hit the 100 yard target (a rare occasion), they sometimes made perfect bullet profile holes from striking the target sideways. On the other hand, they shoot 2" or under groups with my Sako A-7 in .243 Win. so at least I can use them for practice loads. My son's girlfriend's Ruger compact actually shoots them decently, about 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. (That rifle has some serious muzzle blast with the 16" barrel in .243 Win.!) I guess I know what her birthday and Christmas presents will be for the next couple of years. Hope they stay together, just so I can pawn off some handloads with those bullets!

I went back to the 55 BT this weekend, and as usual one ragged hole @ 3960 with Ramshot Big Game. Took it out to 600 and had a friendly milk jug busting contest with some buddies and my bro.

Man, you do have a pile of them with the 55 BT Jake! Be hard to get away from that bullet for sure..
