6mmBR bullets?

If you sort the 105 Noslers there very accurate I was hitting milk jugs yesterday at 800 yards wind was blowing 10 to 15 mph that's not to bad. The little 80 gr Berger varmit shoots surprisingly well out of a 1/8 twist barrel but come to of it the 6 mm br shoots every thing good.

What's the end purpose?

What's the barrel length?

I am ordering parts for a 6 BR as we speak. It will be a dedicated range gun, single shot bolt action, 8 twist #3 Brux barrel finished at 24 inches. So a bit of a lightweight sporter contour barrel.

I ran the numbers through Quickload, and I don't think I can get to a good barrel node with a 24-inch barrel in the 6 BR without 66500 PSI or thereabouts. As a result, I'm looking at the 95 Sierra Matchking as most likely. Berger and others certainly make quality bullets also, but the Matchking is cheaper. Since I won't be competing, the potential gain from the more expensive bullets isn't worth it to me.

...28" of barrel seems to be quite a bit compared to the relatively small powder charge of the 6mmBR, but???

...lots of good 105-107gr. match bullets available, but I'd be tempted to start w/ the 95gr. SMK, just to set a baseline & see what the rifle is capable of...

28" is what Jim of Northland Shooting Supply recommended. I did not order yet. Should I go shorter?

I think 28 inches would be a fine length for a bench gun. If that's what you're after, sounds like it's a good solution!

The range gun I'm after is for position shooting, not the bench. If I were going for a bench gun I'd go for a longer, heavier barrel. The 28-inch length will allow you more velocity out of the 105s, and that allow you to shoot to 1000 yards a bit better. The 6mm BR site says something about the 95s being good out to 600 yards or so, just a touch farther than I intend shooting them.

This is a 30 inch barrel. It's doesn't look un wieldy at all. The other rifle has 26.5 including the brake.

If it isn't going to be carried far (truck to the bench or firing line) go with a 30" barrel as heavy as you can get (straight tube is fine). The 6BR I shot last summer was a HV contour 30" long. I tried every heavy/bullet in the 105-108 weight class and mine liked the 107 SMK with 30 grains of Varget better than any of the others. Berger 105's was second.

You have some great barrel makers in your back yard, but may need to order it from someone that resells their barrels unless you want to wait 6 months for something you custom order. I am ordering a barrel from Bartlein this spring that will be a straight tube (no contour) to finish at 32 inches.

Either way, those are some great looking rifles and man, from what Joel and DF has shown, that little 6BR is very awesome when fed what it wants!
