Pretty nice morning so I packed up and headed out to Jakes with the 7-300 win mag and hopes to get on at 1200 and 1400 see how they grouped and confirm zero's etc...

I was not able to get on the 1400 gong today. Wind kicked up a bit more and mirage got worse. I shot 3 times and could never tell where I was hitting so I called it a day. Will try again on a non windy day and hopefully no mirage. I did however drive up to the 1400 gong and noticed all 3 of my bullets in roughly a 12" group a bit low and to the right of the plate. I had 38 MOA dialed so I"m thinking another 1 MOA would get me where I need to be elevation wise. Wind and mirage can be something else.

Took me 2 shots to get on at 1200 with the wind, elevation was spot on at 28 MOA, ended up with 1.75 MOA for the correct wind and then fired a 6.5", 3 shot group prone w/bipod. Was 4.5" of vertical in the group. My best group to date at 1200, pretty stoked, again considering the conditions were not ideal.

Conditions were about a 10 MPH quarter value wind, switching, dying off etc, 50 degrees, 930 ft ASL, 30.3 pressure.

Load is 75.5g H1000 with a 162 Hornady AMAX at 3150fps.

Jorey,

Nice shooting buddy.
That 7-300 is an awesome shooter.

Thanks Jim

Would have to say your right since this is with virtually zero load development as well and only 40 rounds through it. Bartlein 5R barrel cleans up super easy to.

Dont know if it's really worth screwing around with the load any. Seems to be shooting very good considering the unfavorable conditions.

That is "outstanding", to say the least. What more could you ask for??????? Great rifle, great shooter. Congratulations.

Nothing wrong with that load or with the shooter. Well done, Jorey.

Great shooting Jorey! Seems like that rifle is everything you wanted and then some! Way to shoot!

 Fotis, I'm with you. I'm not going out again until the trees have leaves and the robins have babies! Jorey, that is one nice rifle you put together! There's nothing like having a coyote just stand way out there because he thinks he's safe. I think a rude yodel dog education is coming up

Congrats! That's some great shooting. I think the rifle & load are working really well together!

Nice shooting Jorey. I need to find another place to shoot LR since they closed my other spot.

Nathan,

I wish we had 1200 yds to shoot here in MI!

There are plenty of places to shoot that far here, It just depends on how far you want to drive or how hard you want to look for said place. There is a ton of BLM land to the south and east of here. A buddy and I use to have a 1200yd range south of town and then they built some houses in the line of fire. My last range was on state land that they closed down to stop vandalism on the adjacent Idaho Power equipment. Now I'm limited to about 850yds. I can drive down to Mountain Home to shoot with my buddy as far as you want to shoot (literally about as far as you can see) but it's nice to shoot closer to home. Where I shoot now is about 15 minutes from my house. I'm sure as more houses are being built that spot will get ruined too. There are already people out walking through the desert that you have to watch for since the don't understand that gun fire means you should probably avoid that area.

What ballistics program are you running and are you running a G1 or G7 BC? Excellent shooting as well! Looks like a very nice setup that is being driven by an expert!

Running strelok on android galaxy s4. Using .625 G1 BC. With all my data and zeroed rifle conditions, it was spot on out to 1200. Bit low at 1400 however. I find it gets me started anyways, but the real and only way is to get out there and do the shooting yourself

Far from an expert. Wind gets me everytime. Surprisingly enough ive over corrected for wind on all my first missed attempts at 1000-1400.

Again I think id hate to really mess with loads to much and waste any barrel life as it does seem to be shooting pretty good out of the gate considering conditions as well.

Hope to get her on out to 1400 next time out within my last 7 loaded shells. Going to wait for perfect morning or evening.

After that, I am thinking about sending my scope to Leupold and having them install the TMR reticle. This way I should be able to reach a mile by using the reticle and available minutes.

Should make for some good times if anything else.

Great shooting there buddy - Im liking that 7-300 Win Rifle you all got there ! Gotta get my 7-300 WBee out soon as the new 6-24 Vortex scope gets here - i like that long range steel shootin !

Cheers :) RJ
