Santa brought me a Winchester 70 WSM in a B&C Medalist for Christmas and I topped it off with a VXII 3-9x40 with the LR duplex. I have only shot some factory 150's through it but it does shoot them good. I have everything else to load including a box of 162 AMax bullets. From doing some reading it looks like h4831 and rl22 are good powders?

Any help is appreciated

I load for a friends 7WSM, 60grs IMR-4350, 215M, 160gr bullet. Kills deer and hogs very well.Rick.

Heath,

You must have been a good boy this past year. Santa brought you a fine rifle, that's for sure. We will, of course, need to see a picture. You have two good powders in H4831 and RL22. The cartridge is not particularly fussy, and will readily digest quite a variety of powders in the medium burn rates. Some of the newer powders that work well are Hunter, RL17 and MagPro. The old standards are excellent, however, and often yield great accuracy with the cartridge (think IMR4831, IMR4350, H4831, RL19, RL22, VN560, VN165, etc.). I'm shooting 160 grain ABs in my 7WSM; it is an excellent all-around bullet for that cartridge. It gives good accuracy and drops game with real authority.

Hope you took good care of Santa!! IMHO, the 160's are an ideal match for the 7WSM. My son doesn't care about MHO, and has determined he likes the 140's just fine for his rifle. We got decent accuracy with all the powders you mentioned, plus RL17. His present load is 63.5 gr RL17, 140 AB's, Win std primer, Win brass. This is not a max load in his rifle, but still 3240 fps.
67.3 gr. RL19 produced abut the same with 139 Hornadys.

With Sierra 160's, 69 gr. RL25 gave right at 3000 fps and MOA accuracy. His rifle (M70 laminated Coyote) is easy to load for. Had to change out the mushy hot glue in the bedding because I didn't like it, but not because it wasn't shooting!!

We like seeing the renewed interest in the 7 WSM. Others come close, but it seems to be one of the best options in shorter actions. Sort of like the 284 Win's big brother.

Congrats on a great rifle and caliber! Looking forward to some pics in that Medallion stock. Did it come from the factory that way or put on by someone else?

Heath, after Mike prodded me so long about that danged 7WSM, I had to have one and I have got to say, I am not disapointed in the least. I messed around with 175's and Retumbo, getting into the mid 2900's pretty easily, then I switched to 160 AB's and found the load right off the bat. I am running 67gr RL22, CCI250's and WW cases. I will look up the exact COAL's and such if you need me to, but I just started at mag length I believe.

Here is a group that was shot at 300 with that load. It runs 3125 outta my rifle.

It is really a solid 1/2 to 3/4" rifle with the smallest amount of patience and I have little of that.

Like Mike said, get some pictures of that rifle up.

My 7 WSM likes 180 Berger in front of 66 grains of H 1000. I have shot it too 1280 yards, and was able to hit a 5 gallon bucket from a cold bore.

Man, that is incredible! I hear alot of great things from long range hunters and shooters about the 7WSM. The more I hear, the more I believe. I really like the cartridge a bunch and hope to use it more in the coming year. Scotty

The 7 WSM shoots far better than it should. It is a great cartridge made better by a premium bullet.
