I plan on running 160 NBT's and H4831sc in my 7mm Rem Mag. Unfortunately my Nosler manual does not have Hodgon listed and the load of 60 gr listed on the powder bottle seems quite low.

Where can I look to find a safe load that will hopefully get me close to 3000fps ?

Thanks

With the 168gn they start at 61gns. you should be good starting at 61.5gns.

QuickLoad suggests that you should be safe (64,000 psi in a modern action) with up to 66.5 gr of H4831SC with a 160 gr AccuBond (so safe for the Ballistic Tip) in a 24" barrel for 3014 fps (3072 fps in a 26" barrel).
If you have an older action, than up to 65.5 gr for 61,000 psi as per SAAMI specs, and 2968 fps in a 24" barrel and 3027 fps in a 26" barrel.
Make sure to work up to max in your rifle, watching for pressure signs.

ok, so here's what I wound up with. I loaded 5 each of 65gr and 65.5 gr of H4831sc with a coal of 3.31"
The groups were not impressive and both averaged around 1.5" but I know it wasn't my best day.
I can try running 66gr and a little closer to the lands but I'm not sure if I should make both moves together or separate.

If it were me, I'd try 3 shots with 66.0 grs at 3.310" and 3 shots at 3.325". (Make sure this length fits the magazine and cycles).
I'd also try 3 shots with 66.5 grs at 3.310" and 3.325".
That should tell you what your rifle likes.

3.325" definitely tightened things up a bit. I am wondering if I should try 66.25gr
The best group so far was 3.325" with 66 gr

What was your group size?
Maybe try 3 shots 66.25 grs @ 3.325" and 3.330".

Do you shoot any other larger calibers subMOA? Shooting the harder hitters is a different technique than shooting small stuff. I can't ever remember feeling the recoil on a hunt, but I have a few rifles that like to punish you with extended range times.

I like to bring a soft shooting rifle with me when I'm testing heavier loads if it's been a minute since I was at the range. I keep a PAST recoil pad in the shooting bag too. To me, carbon barrels recoil sharper since there's so little flex to the entire set up.

I love the 7mm RM, 4831 should get you results since it's hard to find alliant powders. I used it exclusively with 150gr class bullets. You'll get there, sounds like your close.

Rather than chasing your tail and making lots of changes, take your best load right now and shoot it more than a few rounds, say five three shot groups (hunting rifle right??), see what the average of those five groups are. That'll give you some practice and a good understanding of how accurate that load really is.

I am using a Caldwell rest but not a ledsled.
The 300 RUM I shoot is typically just as accurate for me as my 7RM but this is the first time I have handloaded for the 7RM
I have a 7-08 my friend handloaded for me that has been just under MOA too.
This is a hunting rifle.

Thanks everyone for the help so far.

I love the .284 calibers and my 7mag is one of my favorites! My go to is a a Tikka 7mm and it hands down likes N160 or N165 the best. Most of my groups have bullets touching.

I have 175g ABLR using H1000 or H4350
150g AB's using N165
150g Silvertip Ballistic and 150g Nosler Hunting Ballistic using N160

I bought 4831sc for a 7PRC load development and was not a fan of it. The short cut was not fun in my scale, i had to adjust the spin rate so it wouldn't go over and it wasn't giving me the consistency I get out of most of my powders. That could just be because of that gun though, Browning X Bolt.

Best of luck on your reload development!
