7mm-08 Load development

I tried cfe223. 45.5 gr yielded 2935 fps and. 75" @100yds with the 140 ballistic tip. Rl17 and rl16 did not do well in the accuracy department

That's awesome load work you did Fotis!
Outstanding accuracy, and velocities!
Looks Like Hodgdon has a winner with the CFE223 powder!

How about some RL 26 spitting out 162's at 2800 fps??????

Work up to 52 gr of RL 26.

Will be compressed! Start at 48 gr.

My rifle is a model 70 Featherweight 22" tube. Bullet 162 Hornady SPBT. Win 120 cap.

That's outstanding velocity for such a long bullet in such a little case!
I really need to find some RL 26 for my .270 and .280!!!

the 270 will reach about 3100 fps with 150 gr bullets.

That's really booking for a 150gr bullet in the old .270 Winchester! Breathes a little more life into the old girl! LOL

That sounds pretty good! How were the groups? I believe RL16 will get you there too without being so compressed. I've been wanting to try it...

I might need to give that a shot in my daughters 7-08! That’s a lot of whompum...

this surprises me . I've had good luck with getting the 7-08's to shoot easy , it seems they shoot anything well . in my tikka I use IMR 4064 with a 139 BTSP . in Denise's X-bolt I'm using a slightly reduced load of H4895 with a 120 B-tip , in my 24" broughton bbl remington I use RL17 with a 140 Berger H- vld . the Tikka and X-bolt generally shoot under MOA out to 300 yards , the Rem shoots , " usually " about half MOA as far as I have shot it . I'll be real interested to see what you end up with .

the rifling doesn't feel rough , does it ? crown look , ok ? scope , ok ?

This has been my experience as well. Our little Savage 7-08 shoots anything I put over powder under inch, to be fair, I only tried the 120 gr. BT, the 139 gr. IB, and the 140 gr. BT. They all shot incredible with Varget.

Those 120’s are shooting 2990 FPS and are devastating on mule deer at close to medium ranges.
