just purchased a mountain rifle in 7mm-08 want to shoot 120 gr bt. does anyone else use the bt or do most people shoot the 140 Partition. going to load both and see which rifle likes better. only using for whitetails.

I use it with RL15 I get about 3100 fps and it shoots 1.1" at 200 yards. Dropped 4 antelope so far.

If you've never owned a 7-08 you may just have a new favorite gun. Fairly easy to laod for and I have yet to hear of one that was too finicky...

I've primarily always shot 150gr B-tips out of it, but am going to drop back to the 120's myself. B-tips and SMK are all I've ever shot out of it...
Have taken several elk with it as well with no issues...

The 708 is a easy cartridge to load for, it seems to shoot everything well. Here is a target composed of 2 groups each with a 140 Sierra SP and a 140 gr Nosler BT over IMR4007ssc. The 120 gr BT shoots as well if not better.

BTW, velocity with these loads was 2800+ fps and the same powder drives 120 gr Ballistic Tips ~3000 fps. I was a Varget freak when loading this cartridge for a long time, but have been impressed with IMR4007....JMHO

The 120 gr BT in your 7mm-08 will make for a dandy deer rifle, deadly on deer.

Ballistic Tip is an excellent bullet for your 7-08. If I were you I'll opt for a heavier bullet like the 140 grainer. I shoot the 140 and the 150 in my 280 Remmy. Deadly deer bullet.

Good choice in rifles, and the 120 BT would be a great choice for a deer bullet. Powerstroke is right, you may just have bought a new favourite rifle.

That's about 30 years worth of Oregon draw tags!

yeah no joke BK, I'm 24 and have yet to draw one, and have been putting in for years.

I have only been messing with IMR 4350 in my wifes 7-08 so far and it really likes the 120 gr. BT. Going to start putting the little guns away and start loading some of the bigger one now, so I'm hoping to get some 140 ABs to shoot good around 2800-2900, but we'll see. I have a jug of Big Game that I use for my 375 Ruger sitting around, and according to the nosler book it is suposed to be good stuff, but every powder listed seems to be working pretty dang well to.

Good Ole IMR-4350 has always been my go to powder with my 7-08.... I'm going to start playing with some others just for somthing to do.. it's going to be hard to beat the norm...

Has anyone tried out an TC Icon in this caliber?
Before you say the Icon does not come in this caliber I have one and their is one reviewed in this article on gunblast.

What length of barrel and rate of twist and type of rifling does the best with this bullet and what bullet weights does each limit me to?

http://www.gunblast.com/TC-Icon.htm

Does the 5R rifling really make a differance?

45 grains varget is max in mine and shoots very well with the 120 BT for me in both my Savage/Stevens 200's, way sub moa and murder on deer, 46 grains gets real flat primers with craters.

Powerstroke
What bullet are you using for elk? I assume you are using the 150BT, Does this work good for you? since you never sent the picture of the one you said you were getting for my daughter,I went ahead and bought one off of Pop.
