jug tested this one in Denise's rifle at 20 yards . 7mm-08 at 2716 FPS ( quickload velocity ) . this is her hunting load , 39.0 grains of H4895 . it spit out the core . total weight 83.86 gr , expanded .590 DIA , 17" penetration .
she has taken a deer with this combo , so I know it works . I just wanted to see how the bullet did at this velocity . this bullet about mirrors the 6.5 ELDX bullet I tested a few weeks ago .
BrentN , I'm using jugs of all different sizes , so I'm giving penetration in inches . this penetrated 17" , which I was very happy to see .
the buck she shot did go right down . it kicked around a little but it never took a step . I told her the kicking around part can be expected . overall I'm happy with how that bullet worked for her . I'll keep loading it .
I used that same bullet for my daughter's 7wsm and loaded down to a MV of a QL-estimated 2400-2450fps.
Insanely accurate, shooting sub-MOA at 100, and she put two literally into one hole at the range.
She shot a buck at about 60 yards quartering toward her. Busted the near side shoulder and I found the jacket under the hide a few ribs back from the leg on the far side. The jacket looked exactly like your pictures here, Jim.
I'm planning to run the same bullet again this year for her and goose the speeds up to wherever she's comfortable. I'm thinking we can get to the speeds you're running in this test, so this makes me feel good about staying with that same bullet another year for her.
I might transition to a 140 Partition for her when she is ready for a little more oomph, but those 120BT's seem to do the job.
Tom , I found accuracy pretty quickly in her X-bolt . I kind of did a quick barrel break in and load development at the same time . I was crunched for time . but it does shoot this load pretty good . plenty good for hunting deer inside of 200 or so yards . I can't find a couple of 300 yard targets right now , maybe I didn't put them on photo bucket .
this one is 100 yards . the first 3 shot group from the rifle . I think it had about 15 or 20 shots through it by this point .
looks good , not bad at all Tom , I'd definitely hunt with that any time and not be worried a bit . these 120's were easy for me to get shooting .
I'll have to look around , I should have a target here that Denise shot at , I think 300 yards . I had her doing the first shot each range trip on a seperate target . I think we ended up at 300 yards . that's where she was able to put them where they needed to be . I think I started her out at 400 yards but the bullets just wouldn't land where she wanted . LOL
I really like the 120 gr. BT in the -08. It shoots fantastic in my Wife's rifle.
I have posted these before but... It shoots most anything I load under an inch. The 200 yard target was shot without a rest off a table. Its under 1/2" off a rest at 100 yards.
We have only killed paper thus far. My intent is for my daughter to shoot a cow elk this year with it tho. I will post pics and a report if we are fortunate to get one!
My brother killed a raghorn 5x5 bull elk in Wyoming with an Interbond. .277- 150 gr. I believe. Shot it with his WSM at about 50 yards. The bull dropped in his tracks and the bullet is probably still sailing in that Wyoming wind! It did a great job!
Next time I shoot jugs I will put one through a test.
I think I have some loaded . I'm still saving jugs , when I get enough I'll test a 139 interbond and a SST . what would you prefer , 7-08 velocities , or 7 rem mag ?
from what I've seen as on game performance, I'd say the interbond is a pretty tough bullet . I'll say the SST is going to be more frangible than a ballistic tip , until you get into the bigger calibers then they are built tougher .
