7mm -3300/160; 3200/175?

That 7mm/300WM is a good looking round, but doesn't one have to neck turn the brass, and neck ream the do-nut out?

Just got my 7mm-300 win mag reamer

I read through most of the "anyone own a 7-300?" Thread.... painful. If we can keep this thread from getting side tracked that would be awesome. I'm looking for load info from PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY OWN OR HAVE OWNED A 7MM-300. And before I run that reamer down a barrel, what twist rate has worked...

I looked in Bob's book, and I was wrong! On page 140 of "Game Loads and Practical Ballistics for the American Hunter" is a picture of his record book caribou, his Mashburn Super Mag and his load, a 160 NPT going 3240! I was so certain it was 3300! I guess I got that somewhere years back when messing with the 7 STW and that 7mm RUM, who knows? ha So my apologies guys! I have enjoyed everyone's input on their Big 7's. I have learned alot!

You can get 3100fps with 160s in a 7 mag with a stiff load of Retumbo pretty easily I know that much. It's more at home around 3000fps however.

I love the 7-300 Win Mag personally. I can do 180g ELDMs at 3150 pretty comfortably from my 28" Bartlein if I want to with RL26. But I chose to go with H1000 and a milder load at 3000fps just because it shoots so dang good and is easier on brass. It'll also do 162 AMAXs at 3350 easy with H1000.

I've had most of 7 mags you can think of over the years, besides the WBY, 28 Nosler and 7 PRC. I just don't care to ever get rid of the 7-300 Win Mag. It's the perfect balance of performance in my opinion for a 7 Mag...The belt doesnt bother me any to justify getting a 28 Nosler or 7 PRC either. They do nothing the 60 year old 300 Win case doesn't do already.

I have owned 26" barreled 7mm STW and 7mm RUM, plus one 26" 7mm Rem Mag. I was never able able to get these kind of "Bob Hagel" speeds out of them. I was able to run 3100 out of the 160 (3200 w/the bigger cases) and 3000-3050/175. As a young man, I read Bob's Book on cartridges and his use of the 7mm Mashburn Super Mag. As I understand it, this is the Mashburn that has even less powder capacity than the Rem Mag, am I wrong? Hal said one could get the titled speeds (well maybe 3100/175) but others claim that 3200/175gr is doable. Most claim this is achievable in the 404 based rounds. I could only find a few claims where the 28 Nosler can get these speeds, but it is just a "shortened" 7m RUM. Are these claims done by higher than normal pressure? I like the "idea" of stretched string trajectory ( to 400 yds w/+3" zero) and "tons of fun" Thump on critters. How and Who is getting these kinds of speeds w/o Red Lining the Dragon? Anyone of you successful 7mm Mag guys want to chime in?

I have 2 7mmRMs and 1 WSM. Both of my RMs are more accurate at the max loads with just about every powder/bullet combo I have tried. But I get pressure w/ 160s once I reach 3100 and I don't shoot 175s. . I now shoot both a tad under 3000. But my 7mmWSM is another beast all together. I found a recipe from Alliant and copied it in below. I worked up only to 70g with this in my 23" bbl on an M70. It will send a 160g NAB at 3220 and doing so at .6 and .7 MOA (3 and 5 shot) day after day after day. I have yet to have any pressure signs, but the load is a bit crunchy. The MPBR you ask about is 320 yards give or take. The only deer I have shot with this load was this past December and he was the usual DRT w/ 160s, but the 'thump' as you call it was unlike any other I have experienced. I'm not going to 71.1g as Alliant publishes, but I think the speed is there...
