7mm Mag. with a 140 gr. BT any good recipees????

for years i used, h4831 with the 140gr ballistic tip. the rifle was a whitworth mark x. 24" barrel. and the load cronographed at 3200fps. if you look in the nosler number 5. you will see an imr 4831 load. my h4831 load was very simular to this, with a load worked up to, the h4831 gave a little better consistancy.

Try Reloder 22. Most manuals I see 67 gr as being max and they claim 3300+ fps. This load never broke 3200 fps. I was able to get 3350 or so with a few grains more in my rifle.

Nosler manual shows 67 grs max of Reloder 22 for 3300+ fps. Alliant lists 70 grs of Reloder 22 for a 139 gr bullet. I load 69.5 and get 3315 fps. and I'm getting no pressure indicators and shoots sub 1/2".

I'm not a 140gr guy in the 7mag but H4831 performed well for me when I was working up loads w/ the 140gr.

RL22 is my most used 7 rem mag powder now. I have had good results with 140 BT and AB's under RL22. 64-70 grs but work up slowly!

I use 215GMM primers and Rem brass.

I used a book max of IMR-4350 for my dads tikka 7 mag with the 140g btip. It produced a 4 shot .45" group at 100 yards, and was going a pretty slow 2950fps. I call it a glorified .270, ha ha. IMR-7828 is a good powder to use with the 7 mag and 160g+ bullets.

I get 5 shot 300 yard groups of 1.5 inch with 140 grain bt and AccuBond with 4350 IMR 65 grains. I have also had good luck with both rl 19 and rl 22. I hope to try retumbo soon
