I was given an 8 lb keg of Winchester WXR powder which appears to be in good shape and have been properly stored. Powder is no longer made. None of my reloading manuals show any data for it. The only thing I have found is that it is the same general burning rate as RL 22 and MRP. Anyone have experience with this powder?

Thanks

do you have an idea what cartridge you would like to try it in ? I'll see if I have any data . I've never used it .

I know that I use it in my custom LH REM 700 300 WSM (69.5 gr for 3978 out if my 23.5" barrel) and that it produces 1/2" groups and has take quite a bit f game for me over the years (wolf, black bear, moose and elk). I got this recipe from DrMike as he was also getting good results with it in Model 70 Featherweights. I still have 5 lbs of it.

If I recall correctly, I believe he is also using it in his 280 Rem with the 150 gr ABLR. He can provide more details. (I know that my 280 did not like the same load, that shoots so well in his rifle.)

Looking at the data that RL338 provided above, I might have to try it in a couple of other cartridges too! (I have not looked at this in Quickload as yet.)

WXR and WMR were top performers in my 280s. I still use my dwindling supply of these powders.

Thanks for the data. Seems like a near replacement for RL22 which I use in several cartridges.
