7mm Rem Mag and 140 E-Tips

I just bought a really nice Parker-Hale 1200 Super in 7mm Rem Mag. Made in 1967.

I'm thinking about using 140 grain E-Tips for load work up since 1. I have a bunch of them and b. 95% weight retention is like shooting a 200 grain bullet losing 35% of its weight.

Does anyone have experience with this bullet in this chambering? I have Magpro, H1000, and Retumbo to play with. WLRM and WLR primers.

Magpro should be real good with the 140, along with RL22 if you could find any of it.. Good luck and post up any of your results if you get a chance to shoot it..

I've never used the 140 grain anything in my 7 RM. However, I would think that the 140 grain E-Tip would give you superb performance in that cartridge. In fact, I may have to work on that this winter just to satisfy my curiosity. See what you've done? The bane of a hand loader is always trying a new combination of components. That's the problem with this place Mike. I was pretty darned happy running 140 PT's and H870 in my 7mm Rem Mag about 25 years ago until I learned I needed other stuff... Now I am surrounded by other stuff that I know works as good, but I am not sure any of it works better..... :lol:

Yeah, right now I'm bullet poor--hundreds of boxes of premium bullets and insufficient time to shoot them all. Then, I keep reading about another bullet (or powder) that I just have to have. Sheesh! A guy can't get a break. :?

You will Probably max out on Velocity at 3100fps using 140gr weight bullets in a 24" 7mm Rem Mag. I would first try H4831 If you can find some. It always seemed to get the best accuracy for me and the 140gr Ballistic tips I shot for many years. E-Tips Do like H1000 from my experience. Good luck with the Parker Hale, Great Rifles.

Thanks for the direction. The P-H is at the smith, seems that the front mounting holes are 8-40 while the rear are 6-32.

I have a bunch of loads prepped. The limiting factor is mag box length, sine I can't seem to reach the lands inside the box.

Looks like a worthy winter project.

In my Vanguard Deluxe, those bullets do really well with 66.2 gr of 7828. I haven't chrony'd them, will do that this winter. The best I've done was a crack over .5" at 100 yards off a rest, three shot group, cooler weather seems to help the third shot. Can't get the 150 E-tips to work for anything so far. The one hog I shot at 75 yds. never knew what happened, bless his heart.

Several years ago I ran some FACTORY 140 gr Remingtons across the screens, and discovered to my delight, that they were clocking 3225 fps... :grin: With good accuracy. I liked that factory load. Did very little handloading with the 140's though. And the E-Tips came out after I sold the 700 ADL rifle I'd used...

Still have a deep respect for the 7mm Rem mag, though I no longer own one.

I have used 150 gr Etips with IMR 4350. I have some RL22 to do some load work up with this winter.

I have taken 2 elk with them and one weighed 148 grs on recovery and the other 149.2.

I have loaded lots of 140's for the .280 Rem but after blowing up a couple of small Texas whitetail with my first 7mm Rem Mag and 140 grain Speer's, I switched to 150/160 grain bullets for the 7mm Rem Mag in 1966. Too much of a good thing can be too much!

I feel the same way. My reloading area and gear cabinet looks like a LGS. What is worse is that I am not sure that it has made any difference. I do know that my Estate sale will be fully stocked and well attended.
