I have been working on loads for my Ruger M77 MkII using 160 Gr Partition Goly Moly Free bullets and Hodgdon 4831sc powder. I have not been able to get the results I want. I had one load that would measure about 1.75. I have since put on a HS Precision stock and I am looking to add a trigger at some point, but for now I need to find a load, Any Ideas?

Not the same bullet or powder but simular:

7mm Rem mag
160g AccuBond
WW brass
H1000 67.5g or Retumbo 68.5g
CCI 250
SAMMI length-over-all 3.290"
about 2940 fps
1 MOA
Ruger #1, 26 inch barrel

Good luck

Welcome to the forum.

What are you hunting with the 160 gr PTG?
You might try the 160 gr PT and the 160 gr AB with RL22 and Federal GM215M primers.

I will be hunting pager game(ELk,Moose) with this load. I almost switched the Bullet after it was discontinued(this process has been in the works for awhile)But I was able to find more from Wholesale Hunter.
I did pick up some R-22 after reading all the posted comments from this page and I guess I will start working up a new load from that. The one thing that was different from the Partition Gold to the regular Partition was the open base(exposed lead). I was not sure if that would have any bearing on my poor grouping or not. Anyway, If anyone has any good R-22 loads I would sure appreciate the help.

Hi ya,
I use 160gr. Partitions out of my 7mm mag. w/ 59.5 gr. of H4831 & this combo works very, very well. I get good results out of Reloader 22 just not w/ Partitions for whatever reason. I also keep my o.a.l. about as long as I can for that rifle.
Good Luck!

The Nosler RG#5 shows the following load data for the
7mm Rem Mag with RL22
Start 59.0 grs, MAX 63.0 grs

Remember to start low and work up. :)

I just worked up some loads last night and shot today. I'm shooting these out of a Ruger M77 with a 24" barrel.

100 yds

160 ballistic tip
H 4831 powder

58.O grains 2 1/2" grouping 3 shots
58.5 grains 2 1/2" grouping 3 shots
59.0 grains 2.0" grouping 3 shots
59.5 grains 1 1/4" grouping 3 shots
60.0 grains 1.0" grouping 3 shots

I'll try to fine tune now at 60.0 to 60.5 grains. I think that 60.0 will probably be the best load. Then I'm going to see how the 160 Partition shoots at that powder load.

I found a load that is phenominally accurate in my m70 shooting the regular 160 partiition with 63.0 RL-22 , Fed 215M primers, WW brass OAL 3.290 Chronied right at 2900 fps. Sunk 5 shot group into a half inch at 100 yds. This is the elk load for me!

Working up towards 63 - 65 gr of Reloader 22 with a 160 should yield good results. It certainly has for me!

61g of RL-22 has been the magic number for me with 160g bullets. If I go up any more in powder charge, the groups start to open up. Kinda sucks, because RL-22 shoots the best on the low end of the powder scale for me.. I"m only getting 2850-2900fps w/160's. I would LOVE to get 3000fps and keep the .5" groups I"m getting with RL-22, but when I go past 61g, I"ve tested to 65g, accuracy opens up to about 1"..

I bet my 7 WSM shoots the 160g faster and just as accurate as my 7 RM. I"ll have to load a few up and find out for myself..

thanks for all the input. I have loaded up some 160 gr partitions as well as hornady 162 gr interlock using rl-22, win brass and fed mag primers. I will followup after my shoulder heals
