7mm saum

A few weeks ago I bought a new Remington 700 ss in 7 mmsaum. I took a doe with it with a factory load that used 160 gr. Partition. I'm going to load for this rifle and I was thinking about using either 140 gr. accubonds or partitions. What's a good powder for this? By the way. that 160 gr. Partition knocked that doe flat at about 200 yards.

Good to hear!!

For the 140gr AB or PT, IMR4350 worked the best for us.

58.0grains of IMR4350. A little over 3000fps.

I see on IMR's web site that 4831 and 7828 are pretty good too. Those powders are also good with 160 gr. bullets.

What was you load with the 160 gr. Accuracy/velocity?

My group was just a hair over 1/2 inch. The loads were factory loads I got with the rifle, and I was in too big of a hurry to shoot this rifle to chronograph them. I have some left and I will eventually chrongraph them. Supposedly, they're going 2960 according to Remington's web site.

That is pretty darn impressive accuracy for a factory load. Nice

I have had good results with AA4350 (59.0 grains) and 140 grain bullets at 3098 fps and H1000 (66.5 grains) with 160 grain bullets at 2993 fps. These loads were out of a 22" barrel ruger and accuracy has been very good and velocity is a 10 shot average with 14 fps deviation on the 140's and 21 on the 160's.

I have been very happy with my 7mm saum so far, I like the compact style for carrying, the recoil is not bad at all and the velocity gives me a reasonably flat trajectory out to 350 yards which is as far as I feel that I need to be shooting in field conditions.
