I hit the range this morning and had a good time. First up was my M1. I shot 3 8 shot groups at 50 yards and they all looked the same. I must admit, I am not a good shot with open sights so I was happy with how it shot. I will load up some more and keep the old girl shooting.

2.63" 8 shot group

The second rifle for the morning was my AR15 in .223. I have not shot it in a long time. I finally mounted the TruGlo red dot on it and really like it. I shot at 50 yards with this rifle also. I used H335 and 55 gr Varmageddon bullets. I need to play with the seating depth a little. An honest 2 MOA with a red dot will do the job for me. This rifle will be for shooting and plinking.

24.5gr-1.567"
24.7gr-0.925"
24.9gr-0.959"

The last rifle was my 30-06 with the Win primers that gave me issues before. When I reloaded, I really focused on seating the primer. I went 9 for 9 today so I guess the issue was me and my priming technique. The one thing I did notice after shooting was that some of the primers popped out a little from the primer pocket. When I set them, they were below flush and after shooting they were raised above flush. What would cause this? Loose primer pockets???

Great shooting WT, looks like a fun day at the range.

As for your 30-06, they might not have backed out, only ballooned up a touch to appear they backed out. Even with loose primer pockets, I haven't noted the primers backing out. Just what I have seen though, can't be totally certain in your case though.

How did the 9 rounds shoot? Accurate?

The 9 rounds were made with a different bullet than what I usually shoot. They were 150 grain Hornadys. I put all 9 into a target of a crow at 100 yards. I did not even measure it. I would guess a 3" group at the very most.

Fwiw..for me ever so slightly backed out primers indicate a mild to medium load. The firing pin drives the casing to the front of the chamber, the powder ignites and the case grabs the chamber walls. But the charge is mild enough there is no stretch of the case back towards the bolt face...the primer backs out slightly
I was once told if you are pushing the good old 30-30 too hard you'll start to see flush primers...the casing is under enough pressure to stretch back to the bolt face.

Kraky, it was a mild load.

55 grains of Win 760
150 grain Hornady SP
Head space before 2.036-2.042"
2.668" on the ogive

I have Win 760 and the 150 grain bullets to use up.

That was it..now would be a great time to use the lee collect neck die to prep those cases for the next test! No lubing or clean up of lube and perfectly concentric brass!

After you mentioned 30-30 rounds, I went downstairs and grabbed some fired brass and the primers are sticking out just like the 30-06 rounds.

I think I am ready to go back and try the 180 AB one more time just to make sure I still have a 1 MOA rifle for hunting season.
