This morning I was minding my own business enjoying a cup of coffee when Molly started howling. Stepping out on the deck I could hear the song dogs on the ridge. Binos and my EOTEC equipped AR in hand I pulled up a chair and waited for a little more light.
Quite a bunch of howling going on. Finally picked them up in the binos but not enough light for the EOTEC and my 60 year old eyes.
Finally enough light, range 850. Put the dot on him, came up what I thought would be an appropriate hold over and tapped the trigger.
Dust. He had a couple of hundred yards to run before he cleared the ridge, I did my best to make sure it was at top speed. Took a couple of shots to figure the lead, got dust all around him, never hit him, sure had fun.

Laughin' here! (y)

They can sure run quickly when it's time to LEAVE!

As much as I enjoy shooting coyotes, "exercising" coyotes is a lot more entertaining... Great way to start the day.

What a beautiful back drop and I am sure that after dropping 20 at him he will have a good memory !!
Thanks for that photo.

Blessings,
Dan

It is a great view, I'm pretty lucky. Right now the sun is setting, without straining I've located two dozen deer, mostly white tails. No song dogs today. But there's always tomorrow. I've got the Jarrett ready, we'll see how those song dogs like 250 grain Accubonds:)

Excellent, ha. I did something a tad similar one year. Back in 2004, I was just driving around, pot shooting prairie dogs with a little marlin 1894 in 25-20, factory loads. I came across a coyote that was chasing am antelope fawn. Both were winded, just looking at each other about 25 yds apart. They were right at 220yds off the road ( country road, way out of town in Wyoming) I circled back around, got steady and sent one at him. I had never shot that little 25-20 that far, so I just held up a SWAG and kicked gravel on him! ha, He jumped 5ft in the air and they both took off. From then on, I took at least a 22-250 with me for cruising, ha. At least I made it a bit harder for him to catch and eat that fawn! :)

If that pic is out your door I am jealous. Pretty place. Great story too. I don't care much for coyotes but "exercising" one cracked me up.

The view is out the living room window, unfortunately I don't own it. Had the opportunity to house sit this winter. I'll be here until I head to Alaska for the summer. Lots of game, well deer anyway to watch, I shoot any time I want, fish steelhead in the river and of course pheasant chukar and quail coming out my ears.
I've been blessed many times, living here is no exception.
