A fine day, not just to remember, but to think, pray and look forward as well.

Catherine has been trying for months to get her interpreters out of Afganistan. We thought we had progress while we were in Africa but everything has stalled. She got an Email this morning from one of her guys in Islamabad, He offered a prayer that we would be safe from the forest fires and asked that we (Americans) not forget those who helped in the war on terror. We kinda screwed the pooch on getting out of there.

I remember that day and yes, I'm still pissed. What gripes me even more is Bush made excuses, then went after the wrong country. Must not aggravate our oil bearing buddies, regardless of what they did.
Paul B.

Yep. I had called into to work Because I was under the house working on a main line water leak and walked into the kitchen to get a coffee, and the news caught my eye. Soaking wet and muddy, the wife drug in an area rug for me to stand on. I guess I stood there the better part of a couple hours, watching in a daze before I headed back under the house.

"For lives that passed us by
For love and it's last cry
For the ones we have left behind

For a close friendship's end
For how this kinship is rent
For the ones we won't see again"

These are the first words of the first song I ever wrote, and they seemed applicable. God bless America.

"It is not life that makes us live
It is not death that makes us die
It is the love inside Your eyes
That makes this life alive"

I also think of two men on this day; On 8 August 2012 Catherines team was sent out on a meet and great mission for the state department; On that date, as was often the case, security was provided by Captain Flo. Groberg and his squad (US Army,) They were hit by suicide bombers as soon after they arrived. For his efforts protecting his and Catherines team he was Awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor. He spent a year in hospital recovering from injuries.
The “Major” 2nd Ranger Battalion; Ranger Instructor; etc. Also my brother in law. He was seriously wounded while in Afganistan and suffered a broken back in the process. He goes in for another surgery on 6 October. Somehow he manages to stand and walk some with a cane or crutches. A lesser man would have given up.
Where do we find these guys?

Great reminder of the cost of keeping watch over the nation. Thank you, SC. Where, indeed, do we find these guys? They come from the farms and the fields of America. They come from the dingy cities and the tiny villages of the nation. They were raised to love their fellow man and their country. And we are the richer for them. May God always raise up such men and women to stand for us.

Ever since the end of WWII we have not had a solid commitment to fighting a war.

We as a nation are not worthy of the sacrifices our fighting men and women have made. The boots on the ground are committed. It’s the fickle politicians that make decisions based on their getting re-elected instead of what is right for our country that makes us unworthy.
