9.3x62

That heavy base on the bullet might cause problems in swaging them down, a high b.c. 250 gr would be nice however.

For sure Mike, the 250 gr AccuBond is the best all around bullet in the 9.3's in my opinion.

Wonder is the .366 250AB could be swaged down to .358...... I am jealous of the BC the 9.3 gets with that bullet. I am betting it would be over .5 if it were a .358.

No buddy you don't need that just find yourself a Classic 06!!

Couldn't resist this..it is a Zastava M70 stainless synthetic. My first 9.3 :)

Boomer, that's a very nice looking 9.3!
I've longed for one for a spell myself. Since I now have the .338 Win Mag it may be a while before I break down and acquire one. I like the ballistics and mass of the 9.3 round. You have yourself a fine rifle and I look forward to reading your range reports.

35 Whelen brass is easily necked up to .366. A small amount needs to be trimmed.
H-4350 and H-414 worked the best for fireforming the cases. Later, I found out about the Cream of Wheat method used in fireforming, but I won't have to use it for a while.

Anybody have some pictures of a 9.3x62? Maybe one side by side with a 35 Whelen?

Here you go Jim, I have 1 9.3x62 round in my collection from my guiding days. It has a bit more case capacity so should be capable of a bit more speed than the 35 Whelen with the same weight.

Thanks Gerry!

Pretty cool looking round.

You're welcome.

It is a neat round, the bullet in the case weighs 255 gr (16.5 grams) and is effective on mountain goats :) Probably will end up with one some day to compliment the Whelen.....

Here's the 9.3 next to a 338-06AI. A guy can push a 250 @ 2750.

Looking at the two pictures, I kinda stand by my original thoughts of using a 280 case rather than a Whelen or 30-06 case to form them. Seems like the closer dimensions of the shoulder would help with having to stretch less in firing forming. Just my idea though, looking at the pictures and drawings of the two. Has to be a .1 or better between the two of them.

Very cool round though Gerry.. Thinking it would be a fun one to work with.

The 280 Rem would work if it was me I would neck up 35 Whelen brass to 375 or even bigger and then neck it down to 366 just enough to have some resistance when the bolt closes. Of course these days it is relatively easy to get 9.3x62 brass with Hornady, PRVI, Nosler, Lapua and Norma making it just off the top of my head. All this talk about 9.3x62's is dangerous, who knows what could end up following a guy home :)

Great point Gerry. I am not sure what I was thinking. At the price of the Nosler 2nd's, I wouldn't even monkey around with any of it. Just buy, load and shoot! HA!

Yeah, it is dangerous for sure. Wouldn't take much to find a Model 70 and have it rebored for a 9.3..

I am not sure if I would go for the 9.3 or a 400 Whelen. Both of those two seem to bring alot of bullet to the table.

I have been looking at that LH 400 Whelen at 24hourcampfire as well seems like a really cool round, no flies on the 9.3x62 either......

Everyone--and I mean everyone--should have at least one 9.3mm calibre.

I repeate: Everyone--and I mean especially those living in AZ--should have at least one 9.3mm calibre rifle.

Just trying to be helpful.

It is a cool over 30 caliber. It is pretty fun to watch those big guys hit the longer ranges, with a little knowledge, those old boomers get out to 400 and then some without drama. The first time I pulled the 35 Whelen from the case on the 600 yard range, Brian thought I was nuts.. It'll do it and it still makes a good hole!

Mike, this is cruel and unjust punishment. I have a donor intended for the 35 Whelen and now I here how much better the 9.3x62 is, Just how am I ever going to build the Whelen with all this talk at how much better it is :?:
I've had enough trouble with the 338x06 let alone throwing the 9.3 into the mix.

I use the 9.3X64, Rodger. It is a high-stepping cartridge, to be certain. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to take the 9.3X62 into any situation requiring me to take out a moose, or an elk or a grizzly.

Geez guys you really need to stop this non-sense. The suggestion of building one of those is poison to my ears. For one I have 9.3 brass waiting patiently to be used. Then for 2 I have a Classic SS M70 action waiting patiently for attention. And lastly it would be the perfect caliber to add to my battery. A 250AB @ 2750 with a .5BC these are very scary thought I don't want floating around my gray matter right now. 308 trajectory with a large 338 mag power. It's just not right for this to be brought up.

Your Friend,
Jake
