Drove to Portland yesterday to pick up a box, 4.5 hours one way. It was full of treasure, now to get them on the wall!

The horns were off the water buck, Lechwe, Hartebest and Gemsbok. They slide on with just a little wiggle and a spot of contact cement.

My picture taking does not do justice to the mounts; upper left or back row top; Waterbok; Red Lechwe; Impala; Red Hartebeest; Blue Wildebeest; Warthog; Mountain Reedbuck between the warthog and Impala; Gemsbok; and Springbok.

Catherine caught me sneaking into a couple of other rooms with the tape measure, stud-finder and ladder. Ran me out with a fly swatter. Not sure where she’s going to put me and a Cape Buffalo next year. :)

I recently had a dinner meeting for work, and the colleague had been really interested in my hunt, and the safari pics after I got back to work. On this meeting, as he was staying at the Lodge not far from my place he picked me up for the meeting and dropped me back of at home again, as I wasn't driving yet. (Was nice to get out of the house and do a little socializing!)

When he dropped me back at home, I invited him in to see the mounts from our last safari (Impala, springbok, bushbuck, warthog, kudu, sable, and nyala), along with those from New Zealand, and hunts from here at home. He expressed appreciation in the difference from seeing things in pictures, to being able to see these mounts in person.

As a non-hunter to date, he now has an interest in getting into it, after seeing the mounts and being able to lay hands on antler, bone and fur. He had gained a whole new appreciation for the mounts and how one's memory is triggered just by looking and touching them on a regular basis, "Prompting" those memories and smiles to the adventurer.

So many view "trophies" as just an ego boost and bragging feature purley for the hunter.
It was good to see someone gain appreciation that these mounts and hides are truly about prompting treasured memory recall that quickly brings a smile back and a sparkle in the eyes of all those who participated in the adventures where these treasures were earned.
And that it can be of educational values to those who weren't there, and be the cause of sparking interest in those who may not hunt, in a pastime that we were all once dependent on; hunting for subsistence!
