A buck a bullet... Wow... Went to order some 300 gr Nosler Partitionss for my .45-70, and saw that the current price is now up to a buck apiece...

I've always thought of Nosler Partitions as being superb game bullets, and worth the extra cash, but still, that sort of set me back a moment. The way I justify their expense is:

1. I reserve the Noslers for serious hunting, and of course for final sight-in of the hunting rifle. If the bullet that takes my mulie, or elk or whatever costs a buck, I don't really care. It's a small thing in the overall cost of the hunt, and I know I'm hunting with a great bullet.

2. All my other shooting with that rifle (be it the .45-70 or anything else) is done with less expensive, conventional bullets of the same weight, loaded to the same velocity.

3. I do a whole lot of shooting with the little .22 rimfire Marlin instead of the big blaster.

A buck apiece is steep, but they are what they are, and they'll do the job like no other 300 grainer.

Regards, Guy

What can I say? I agree with you.
When I had my 45-70 and or 450 Marlin I was lucky to find out that the 300 gr Remington JHP shot pretty close with similar "accuracy" results as the 300 Nosler. I practiced and shot with these and hunted with the Noslers.

Everything has gone up within the shooting world.
4 bucks for 100 primers???? ridiculous!!!!!! I was told by an economist that the Chinese are buying up everything to build and export , raising the prices quite a bit. Also supplying the troops in Iraq does not help.
Lead, copper and everything else is hard to find at a small price.

Guy,

I just bought the last 2 boxes of 44 cal 250 gr PTG's from my local dealer,
$38.95 a box. The new price is $43.95 a box.

I sure wish I could get some seconds!

I still NEED to get a box of .451 cal 260 gr PTG for my muzzle loader.

Yeah, guys you are not alone. Its getting really rediculious that we have to pay this much for reloading supplies. Especially for the bigger calibers. The only thing that I have found somewhat reasonable to shoot is my .223.
Get this guys here in New York at the salvage yards copper is going for $3.00 a pound.

High prices is up for everthing, from gas to reloading supplies. A month or so ago I give $3.09 for 100 cci primers and $25.00 a pound for IMR 4350 powder for my 7mmRem. Mag. Wideners.com has Rem. 300 gr.SJHP bullets for $21.50/100 which you can use to target shoot with then go to the noslers for hunting. I'm doing just that to save my Noslers for hunting with my 7mm Mag. I figure I'll buy enough for 400 to 500 loads to last me a few years. I can load cheaper for me and my son than what Wal-Mart wants for a 7 mag.
My other son has a 444 Marlin and when he goes to buy ammo it's going to hit his pocket book.

Noslers Rock!

The bullet is the cheapest part of any hunt. I don;t have a problem w/ $1 each. For practice. just load a cheaper cup/core & then sight in w/ the NP.
