I was surprised to see this cat wandering around in the middle of the afternoon. I’m thinking it looks a bit skinny so probably looking for an easy meal.
Cool to see.
Yes...looks hungry...
Adolescent that hasn't yet learned enough to be as successful as they need to keep weight on...or a nursing female?
Best keep the pets inside! And the kids/grandkids close.
On my last elk hunt I spent a week at Rocky mountain national park hiking around to get accustomed to the altitude before the hunt. One day I found a slide and climbed it. Far above the trail I found a 6 point elk that had been killed by a lion, the skull was upside down with the points all driven into the dirt. There wasn't any broken points or sign that something had tried to eat it. It was nearly perfect and I wanted it.
I considered just putting it into my truck bed and driving out but knew it would be mostly above the bed and easily seen and decided against it. So I stopped at one of the ranger stations scattered around the park. I had gotten quite friendly with the young lady stationed there and thought it might help. Instead she got really irritated with me. Not for asking, but for climbing that high from the trail. She gave me quite a lecture about the danger of mountain lions and made me promise to stay on the trails.
She snorted and said, "Even a Rebel from Dixie would feel naked upon a meeting with one of our big cats armed with only a camera around his neck." Then laughed.
She made a believer out of me.
