A little something followed me home from deer camp

Went to deer camp in north central PA to hunt with the flintlock for a few days, and this 16ga Bucks County style fowler came home with me. Darndest thing I ever saw....I told the wife I made it sit and stay and then walked out of the cabin, but somehow it was in the truck when I got there. So...what's a guy to do?

Now that's a nice looking fowler. I wish one would follow me home one day.

Well...I carried the fowler a bit for deer, but no shots in range presented themselves.

But here's why fowlers were so common historically... I pulled the ball off the powder charge and replaced it with a load of #5 shot on top of a nitro card, held in place with an overshot card.

Smoked a squirrel last night..... so from deer to small game. And in a few months, it'll be time to chase turkeys.

Those flintlocks are works of art. Crafting function and beauty like your example can only be done by hand. Hunting with those art forms is a passion. It takes special skills to build those guns and hunt with them. Very nice.
