A new thumper added to the safe.

Found this the week before Christmas. It's a 338-06 built on pre '64 Win 70, 23" featherweight barrel in a custom stock. It's been hunted but it's in very good shape. The bore is about as pristine as it can get. Found it on GB for 750$. Merry Christmas to me! I'll try 200grABs and 210 Partitions first; I bet one of those will work just fine.

Yes sir if that's a cartridge you were after that's a good buy. Hard to buy a M70 in good shape at that price, let alone a pre-64 action. I'd say you done good!

Your choice of bullets should work well for you.

Another great bullet is the 215 gr SGK.
My 338-06 is producing 1/2" groups w/ 62.0 gr of H-414 .

200 gr BT's over 50.0 gr of IMR 4320 produce 3/4" groups @ 2590 fps in Wby cases and WLR primers @ 2751 fps out of my 22" barrel.
210 PT's over 56.5 gr of BL-C2 produce just under 1" groups @ 2749 fps.
As a comparison, Weatherby's factory ammo w/ 210 PT's produce 1/2" groups @ 2750 fps.
