Recently, I aquired an old push-feed USRA Fwt. .270 from a disgruntled owner. It required much scrubbing w/various cleaners to get an acceptable level of satisfaction.

Yesterday, in 80* temps. the old girl delivered 1/2" groups @ 100 yards with 58 gr. of RL22, 210 primers and 130 gr. Partition bullets. OAL was set at max. magazine allowable length.

In a couple of years, it will be passed-on to a great-grand-son who is doing very well with the .243.

Congratulations !

My only Mdl 70 is a push feed as well and it shoots just about as well.
I know " push feed and Mdl 70 " in the same sentence is blasphemous around these parts but .....

I've had a couple of PF Model 70s; each shot very well, indeed. I recently purchased a PF Model 70 to build a .284 Win on. I have no doubt it will work very well for me. The only possible difficulty I can imagine is if I ever attempt to slowly chamber a cartridge while hanging upside down.

That never was one of my best positions to shoot from either, Mike  !

Although not a big fan of the PF model 70's they can be very accurate. At least the ones I had

Kodaik, your great grand-son will be tickled pink with that Model 70. He is lucky to have a Pops like you

Blessings,
Dan

I have owned a: .243 Win, .30-06 Mannlicher, .270 Win, .338 Win and .375 H&H, Winchester Model 70's in the XTR push feed models made from 1970-1985. All of them worked great and many of these rifles were very accurate, as much so as a modern Browning made Model 70.

Those PF Winchesters are way underated IMO. Good servicable hunting rifles that are usually very accurate. I especially like to buy up all the cheap M670's I can find.

I am with you and the others. My son has a PF 7mm Mauser Featherweight that is just awesome shooting, and I have my old original 7mm Rem Mag, both are great shooting rifles. While I don't seek them out, I won't pass a nice one up. Most will shoot really well, and that is what counts for me. The 7mm Mauser is about the slickest feeding rifle I own, next to my Pre 64 338 Win Mag.

Good luck with that 270 Jim. I imagine your kin will enjoy the heck out of that rifle and a 130 PT shooting that well won't leave anything standing! Well, not for long..

Alright, this was one of the funniest quotes I've read in months!

On a serious note, my PF 30-06 is my favorite rifle. I have a few dandies in the safe but the ol' 06 gets the nod most of the time. Unless of course, I plan on hunting upside down.

One last thought on the push feed. Isn't the 700 a push feed (rhetorical question)?

Arguably the most popular action (so I've heard) for years.
