Took three of my Remington 700's to the range today. The .30-06 & .25-06 700 CDL's hadn't been fired since being bedded last month. The .308 Varmint/Target rifle had only been roughly sighted-in with the well-used "new" 4.5-14x Leupold. Needed some range time with these good rifles!
Left to right: .30-06 w/2-7x Redfield, .25-06 w/6x Leupold, .308 w/4.5-14x Leupold:
The .308 is just about perfection for me in a rifle. First three shots with Federal factory 168 gr match ammo clustered in about a half inch group at 100 yards. I adjusted the elevation & windage a bit and centered that group up in the next three shots. What a rifle... I'd say the "new" scope and the old rifle are getting along real well:
Got the .30-06 decently sighted-in at 200 yards with 165 gr Nosler "Solid Base" bullets at about 2800 fps via H4350. A standard load of mine. This ammo was actually built for the old Model of 1917 .30-06 I've been using most of my life. It shot about MOA, as expected. I'll refine the zero a bit once I build some ammo specifically for this rifle. Am thinking the 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, or perhaps the 165 Partition. I've got plenty of both.
The .25-06 and I barely got started when I ran out of range time. It's always nice to run into old friends at the range, but sometimes that results in far more conversation than shooting... Ah well... Out of time, packed up and headed for home. It was a real fine morning spent at the range with three of my favorite rifles. The .25-06 is a little miffed about getting shorted...
