Above town last night

He's not legal game in that area. Only "true spike" bulls are legal during the regular season. "Branch antler" bulls are only available on a limited draw.

Range is about 120 yards, wind is calm. Light is fading, you're in the last 45 minutes of legal shooting light. IF HE WAS LEGAL, where would you hold and what would you hit him with?

Right in the shoulder fold, my .280 loaded with 150 grain ABLR will ensure that I have steaks in the freezer.

I would say the same , shoulder shot just left of the tallest scrub there covering the vitals. My 300 win and 300 bee either have yet to be blooded. But like everything else I've taken in the last 25 years more then likley be carrying my trusty 7 mm rem BDL.

Yes front shoulder with 150gr. ABLR coming out of my 280AI.
Hopefully have it field dressed before dark .

Blessings,
Dan

I'd put it right behind the shoulder. Sure hit in a vital area and he'll bleed himself out when he runs. I think that makes the meat better.
If I was hunting somewhere that I might encounter one of those, I'd either have my .300 WM or my 7mm Mag. in my hands. I always want enough gun for the game. You can't kill them too dead.

I'd have to stalk him a bit...since the only large game hunting tool I have right now is a crossbow...maybe sneak around that hill and into the trees, hoping to get ahead of him...

At 120 yards a rock would just about do it. Anywhere to the left of the tallest sprout. He is meat in the freezer. No time to be picky or, overthink. Pull up, get the crosshairs in the front quarter and squeeze. Then go pick him up. Sliding him whole down to the road would be icing on the cake. Any bears or Big Mulies?

I'm with Elkman, anywhere to the left of the tallest sprout, with a 210 grain TSX BT out of my .338 Win Mag.

Elkman, we only saw a mulie doe & fawn, at longish range. Photos weren't that great. Have never seen a bear in this particular area. I imagine there are a few around though, likely living down in the bottom of the deep draws where it's cool & moist.

I agree with the others, up tight behind the shoulder. I would most likely be using the 338 RUM with a 250 gr AB but it might be the 280 AI with a 150 gr ABLR, 35 Whelen with a 250 gr PT or the 45/70 with a 300 gr PT.

Yep with a rest at that range it would be a neck shot.
130 grain AB out of a heavy barreled .260 would work just fine.

Just a hair to the left of the tallest scrub. .280 Remington 140 Barnes TSX(all I have loaded right now), It would probably catch the off side shoulder and have a good chance of him not going anywhere or very far for that matter

I would be putting the bead of my 348 centered on the vitals. It is sighted in dead on at 100, so at 120 I have no worries. 200 gr hornady fp = dead bull. Tracking job by Stevie Wonder

338 ultra mag. neck meets the shoulder. he wont take another step. field dress him and lead him down the mountain like a prize 4 h steer.
