Accubond issues, what causes this?

I have bought accubonds since they have been on the market, and got several bullets out of my last batch of 160gr .284" like this. Some deformed, and tips missing. I figured it was a once thing, but now see a box of .308" 180gr with this. Any idea?

I emailed Nosler, well see what they say about it. Bullet's are not cheap as they used to be.

i'd guess some kind of chemical got into them, be sure to contact the store where you baught them too.

I love the AB bullet, but I must report something similar. I bought a box of 225 grn, AB's for my .338 and set about making my hunting loads, using once-fired brass and all. I'd already worked up the load at this point. Anyway. I get to the end of the box of 50 bullets and find (2) like he describes above, one missing the tip completely and it looked like some sort of chemical reaction had BLOWN that tip off the bullet, and the other more like he shows above with chemical staining. Nosler very quickly sent me a box of bullets but the problem was, I'd already meticulously loaded my hunting ammo for the year with what appeared to be a defective box of bulllets!! And, if a Partition has a defect at least you know the damn thing is still gonna expand and penetrate but with the AB, if that bonding has a problem then who KNOWS what you've got.

The guy at Nosler assured me all would be fine if I shot an animal with any bullet from that box, and I believe him. But it was disturbing.

Oh- one other thing. Opening day of elk season that year was misery incarnate- freezing rain and and slushy snow. The cartridge in my chamber all day got wet. The tip of it came off, leaving the previsouly unstained bullet stained green around where the tip used to be. The tip ended up stuck in my chamber and was a PITA to get out.

So... i love the AB and it's my bullet of choice. But my love for it is tempered by the above. The one animal I have killed with one, a nice blacktail buck with my 30-06 and a 180-gn AB, was a real test of a bullet hitting shoulder socket at 75 yards and traversing diagonally through the deer before exiting way back on the opposite flank. The bullet obviously penetrated and it didn't mess up that front shoulder. Perfect!

I am glad that Nosler took care of that issue,
I have noticed that when I have bought Accubonds from the Noslers seconds place, that usually 2-4 of the bullets have the tips missing!
Not a huge deal, but a tad frustrating, none the less-

I was loading this morning and had the same problem. The 200 gr. Accubonds in 338. Looks like they corroded from the glue used to fix the tip.

No glue used, friction fit. I think it is from the cleaning process.

I just received 4 bags of the .338 200 gr AB's and they look fine.

I would think that they are using some kind of amonia based solvent to give the jackets a high luster finish. I am guessing that if this is not properly washed and dried, a corrosive residue is left behind and attacks the finish.
Again, this is just a guess.
Did you contact Nosler about the bullets you have in question? Were they boxed factory bullets or factory seconds. I have been using the factory seconds for years. They come in bags of 50 and are purchased from Shooters Pro Shop.

These were new in the box. I got them about a month ago. I also use the ones from Shooters and never had a problem before this. In fact I took a nice 6 X 6 elk with some of their 160 gr Accus last fall.

I haven't received a reply to my e-mail in three days so I called the 1-800.
Seems the flux they use in the bonding process wasn't cleaned off well enough which caused the problem. They are sending me 1 new box of bullets. Which to me is a little cheap for all the trouble/time they have caused me. They also said not to fire anymore out of that box.
