accubond vs partition

I shoot a 270wsm and have always been a nosler fan. I understand that the AccuBond shines at long range but would the Partition be a better choice for 70 to 150 yard ranges on big whitetail and mule deer.

While the accubonds design is tailored for range shooting I see no problems using it in tight on any game. I have taken moose and elk with a 160 ab out of my 7mm rem mag which were 100-150 yards, no problems experienced - pass thru's or tucked on the opposite hide weighing in 60% area for weight retention. They do open up a larger wound channel then a part but IME behave pretty similarily inside an animal. I have taken a few deer with them at ranges from 100 -250 yards, honestly didn't notice any difference in performance 2 holes - in and out, excellent wound channel and tag filled.

I'd let the rifle chose, both are excellent choices for deer in your 270wsm. My experience with AB's they are extremely accurate, I haven't had any problems finding a load for any rifle I work with and the AB.

Ditto to everything skeeter said!

I've never shot an Elk but i've shot deer with both the Par and the AccuBond at ranges from 50yds out past 200yds and both have performed just as they were designed too. I've found the AccuBond to be more accurate in my rifles than the Partition with on game performance being about the same. I also agree that i haven't had any problems finding a load that will shoot with consistent accuracy with any rifle i've loaded with the accubonds. The Partition is a proven bullet but the AccuBond is quickly making a name for itself as well. Both are awesome IMO.

I too have a 270 WSM, in fact I was lucky enough to win it in a raffle.

It shoots either the 140 grain AccuBond or Partition a little under an inch at 100 yards. I shoot them with a RL 22 for a velocity of just over 3150 fps.

The gun is so new I have not had a chance to shoot much with it. I did shoot a nice meat hog the other day and it dropped him like a hot rock. I used the 140 AccuBond and the range was close, maybe 50 yards. He was coming right towards me and the bullet actually went through his ear before entering the neck.

We did not recover the bullet, but from what I could tell it performed well. Iit made a fairly large entrance hole but did not appear to have "over expanded" on entry.

I shot both, a hog and a deer last year with the 140 AccuBond in my 7-08 Remington. Both were around 50 yards, running like a scalded cat, and both those bullets made exit. The Partition is the gold standard to be sure, but the AccuBond is impressive also.

I do not think you will go wrong with either bullet for deer.

I do think that the Partition is a little tougher than the AccuBond (ie Texas heart shots and the sort). That said I do believe it has to be an extreme situation to tell the difference.

I shot two elk last year. One at 30 yds. one at 212 yds. The AccuBond held together for a pass through at 30 yds with much less meat loss than a part. would normally do. At 212 yds. the A/B hit behind the last rib and quartered though about 2.5 feet of stomach and took out the heart and lungs with 62% weight retention. It seems to me the A/B expands in a more linear fashion than the part. There's not the violent opening of the front part. It seems to me and a few others it does magic on the vitals with very little (blood shot) loss. I'm A/B all the way.
Good Hunting!! Post pictures.
