Thinking about Africa for 2026 if things work out.
Anybody ever hunted with Umlilo Safaris?

Thinking plains game and South Africa.

Vince

Got half my hunt paid for with Francois of Umlilo Safari and thinking of going during our winter, their summer. I was originally going in May/June

Don’t want to wait. I’ve decided to invest in a good camera and just bring back pictures. Got some news today, unconfirmed but likely, that makes me want to get my bucket list done forthwith.

Vince, Catherine and I have recently adopted the philosophy we were only given 80 summers. I’ll be 70 come elk camp. She’ll turn 67 at deer camp this year. We are done saying “maybe next year or the year after”. Regardless any dire prognosis, we hope you don’t have one, we applaud you getting it done. We should be done to Tucson around Thanksgiving, certainly before Christmas. Let me know if you need anything before that and I’ll be in touch when we are in town.

Sent you a PM.

Your phone will be great for most of your pictures. Talk to your ph and see if you can spend a day at a photography park-elephants and giraffes and all the rest stand and stare while you take thousands of pictures. It’s a great add on to a hunting safari and your new camera will get to stretch its legs

Take extra money-you will have opportunity to hunt animals you have only dreamed of and weren’t planning to take-

Here’s what I sent my boss, the scheduler, and HR.
I’m not negotiating anything.

I will be out of the country and unable to work effective 11/18/25 and able to return to work on 12/06/2025.

My tickets are already purchased and unable to be changed as I will be in South Africa for Thanksgiving.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.”

Nice list of game animals Vince. It's going to be an awesome safari.

I’m taking my Winchester Model 70, LH, CRF, .338 Win Mag in a McMillan stock that Pat Holehan was kind enough to work on for me when David Miller, since passed away may he rest in peace, didn’t have time.

I'm super happy for you and excited to hear about your trip when you get back. Kudu is a bucket list for me, but honestly any trip to hunt African game on your list would make me happy! I like your choice of guns to tag along on your adventure as well. I will live vicariously through you and your typed words on this screen haha.

Vince,
Are you taking your own sticks, or using the PH's?

Susan used the PH's Death Grip Bog Pod, while he had me use his Viper sticks when in Africa.
In New Zealand, I took our Trigger Stick Tripod.
Susan liked the Death Grip, and got a set for Christmas last year. She found it more stable than the Trigger Stick.

Maybe I’ll use what they have. Just have to see.

I bought a Bog Pod Death Grip for Sue. It's a little bulky but it's super stable. It worked awesome in the blind when she was bear hunting over bait.
It would be perfect for a Leopard hunt.

I’ll also chime in on the death grip tripod. I got a set for my wife and daughter. It was a major improvement over the trigger monopod I had for stability. I bought a standard set then got the carbon set because I’m the one carrying them and wanted the weight savings. They aren’t heavy, but they are bulky. I also use them in the blind for my daughter and on thermals with hogsIMG_6571.jpegIMG_6535.jpegResized_20240804_040033_184696629213239_1733792353993.jpegIMG_6305.jpeg
They really are a great set with a handful of benefits.

The set my wife has is heavy, and yes, I too am the one carrying it and setting it up for her.
I was going to buy the carbon version for weight savings, but she got hers for Christmas from my Mom. I will probably get the carbon one yet, but it'll be later this fall as my daughter's wedding is coming up in September.

They are a great tool to have for sure. The weight savings from the standard to the carbon is pretty good, but in all honestly I don't know if the added cost makes sense. I'm glad I have them, especially on days we walk a lot but I was certainly questioning it when I got them haha.
