Actually took these a couple of days ago on a fishing trip to Alaska, but thought you hunters would enjoy. Sure had me thinking...

We had flown into the Tsiu River to fly-fish for silver salmon. Fishing was great, and it was a bonus to come across the brownie one morning. What would you use if you were hunting the coastal plain for this guy?

Regards, Guy

Thank you Guy for posting the pictures really cool. I sure hope you had a good time. Also, thanks for the scale by using your foot. Great stuff.

338 EDGE with a 250g Aframe at 3100fps would get the nod for me. A big tough bullet that will keep going and going. Hopefully one day I can afford a brown bear or grizz hunt in Alaska. That is my ultimate dream hunt. I just need to get a really good job and save $10,000 to do it.

45-70 with a nice heavy 400g slug would also work well I would think, but thats a little close for my liking. I"d like to be at least 200 yards if not 300 from him before I shot him. THat way hes got to cover some ground to get to me. I think I could get 2 more shots in him before he reached me and reload 2 more just in case, LOL!! Otherwise, 50-100 yards is just not in my comfort zone for something that will swipe your head off or stomach open in 1 swipe.

Mr. Guy, a friend of mine dropped by today for a visit and told me that he has booked a Bear hunt in Alaska for 2009. This will make 3 trips for him. he has been successful both times in the past, took huge bears. the cartridge of choice is the 338-378 Bee with 250 Nosler Partition. In his words, it works every time.

Guy,

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Wow! Not a fisherman really, but that looks like an awsome place to visit. Interesting neighbors too. Hope you had fun! CL

Guy,

Great pics.... either you have one small foot or that is one dandy of a bear track.
