Alberta hunter survives Grizz attack.

I saw a brief synopsis yesterday, but this account is a good, full account. The great tragedy is that the hunter may well be cited if AB COs follow the pattern previously established. There is assuredly a good bear population, including grizzlies, around Swan Hills.

It is quite sad that bears are considered by some to be more valuable than human life.

I hadn't seen that incident on the Morice River, Gerry. I haven't seen as many attacks in and around FSJ and PG this year; last year seemed to have quite a few incidents. I'm always alert, especially in some of the high valleys at this time of year.

It does sound as if he took quite a beating, Gerry. I used to carry bear spray when I was fishing over that way. If I come over again, I may have to carry that again, or my Defender.

Some rivers I don't carry a gun but there are some here I wouldn't want to go fishing in the fall without bringing the 375 Ruger along.

I've witnessed those bears moving awfully fast. Kneeling down, it might well have been impossible to even pick up a firearm had one been close at hand. I remember stumbling on steaming grizzly scat one fall afternoon while fishing. The tracks went into the bush behind me. The bush on either side of the stream was very tight, and I was armed with three pound test line. I confess that I felt very naked that afternoon. I backed out and went back downstream. In that situation, had a bear broken out of the bush, there would not have been time to fetch a rifle or shotgun off my back.
