Alliant powder

I use different powders for different rifles. So far, I am pretty lucky loading magnums with 2 powders, 7828 and 4831, both IMR. For lighter loads, both of these burn too slow for my liking.

257 Wby Mag (7828 and 4831) Best Group 1/2 outside to outside. on 3/4 inch group at 300 yds. 100 gr AB, 120 Gr Partition, 100 gr bal tip
264 win mag (4831) BEst group, 1 hole) 140 gr Partition, 130 gr bal tip, AB
7mm wby mag (3 rifles) 4831. Surprising to me, but it shoots better for me in this cal) 1 hole 160 gr AB

300 rem ultra mag 7828 1 hole group 200 gr AB, 165 gr AB

I have friends that want me to work a load for 30-06 and 25-06. Not sure what powder to start.

Hardpan,
I have loaded the 30-06 and 25-06 longer than any other cartridges. It's tought to beat any of the 4350's in the 30-06. It's tough to find a bad powder for it. I loaded a lot of 4350 in my 25-06 since I used it in the 30-06 too. Once I was able to spend more money on components and more time at the range, I tried many other powders. Both IMR and Hodgdon 4831, H1000, R-22, and R-25 gave impressive results that I could have settled on and had a great hunting load. The real winner for me, and several others, was IMR7828ssc under a 115-120grn bullet, the 115grn Nosler Ballistic Tip being the best shooter. RL-25 was a very close second with 120grn bullets. This is one of a few cartridges that I have noticed differences between 7828 and 7828ssc in both groups and velocity. The other two cartridges are the .243 Win and the .280 Rem. I saw no difference in the larger cases like the 7 Rem mag.
