Interesting concept. After I started using Imperial Sizing Wax, I've never again gone back to sprays or the lube pads. Do you figure you are saving much by trying the cooking spray? I do know that the Imperial last for a very long time.

You could probably use it with the old style Herters cloth lube pads. If you are getting dented shoulders you had too much of it on. Just don't get any inside, lube and powder don't mix.

I do not see any need for an alternative case lube. Things like Hornady One Shot and Imperial Sizing Wax are just not that expensive.

My choice of lubes is quite simple. If it is something like a .223 or 22-250 or 6mm Rem, I just use Hornady One Shot and I am good to go. If the case is larger or fatter like a 300 WSM, I start with Hornady One Shot, but at the first sign of difficulty sizing the case, out comes the Imperial Sizing Wax.

I am not sure how Imperial stays in business, their products last so long I don't think I will every use them up. (But I have new packages sitting here, just in case)

I have found that if I have sprayed the case with Hornady One Shot, then decide to go with the Imperial, I just add it right over the Hornady. (But only on the bottom third of the case) Then I really get easy resizing.

Interesting enough, I routinely have to resort to the Imperial Sizing Wax for my 300 WSM, but never for my 270 WSM. Go figure.

Imperial Sizing Wax

nothing else for me gents.....

I just use the RCBS lube and pad, I've been too cheap to buy anything else. But I did find some mica that I didn't know I had.

I use one shot for loading, for heavy case forming nothing I've found beats STP oil treatment on a pad or rag.

Same here- A 5.00 can will last me 5+ years at a minimum and it works. Just can't see messing with something else. No reason to get too crazy with it. Scoty

I do go through a can somewhat faster, but I have no way of knowing how many cases will have been lubed when I have used the last of this present tin. This is a great product.

+1

This stuff is awesome. After having dented and stuck cases with other products I went to the wax applied w/ a q-Tip and VIOLA! No problems.

I think I've had mine for a few years now and there is barely a dent in the center of it. Stuff lasts forever.

Just curious, but why only on the bottom third?

Same here, I only lube the bottom 1/3 of most cases. The WSM's get a little more further up because of less body taper, but generally, the 06 and WM cases don't touch the sizing die until about the bottom 1/3. Scotty

I guess if you're using a collet neck die, then the only real friction point between die and case would be on the body...ok, that makes sense. Is the reason it only touches the bottom third because you're using a FL die to just bump the shoulder back and trying to minimize case body sizing?

You said it exactly right. I only bump the shoulder a few thousands and man I have gotten excellent case life and it does seem to have assisted accuracy as well. The WSMs are a little straighter with less taper but Imperial still works excellent. Scotty

Cool, I think i'm gonna have to get set up that way since I only load for one rifle. Sounds like Imperial sizing wax and just bumpin the shoulder will be just the ticket. Thanks for all the info.

atmosphere, the bottom third of the case is where the difficulty in sizing becomes apparent. If you try to size a case with insufficient lube you will notice that when you get down to the bottom third or so of the case that it is in this area that lots more force is necessary. I only apply the Imperial to the bottom portion of the case because that is where it is needed. No real need to apply it to the upper portion of the case and then just have more to clean off.

I do not know how Imperial stays in business, I have a can that I have used for years now. BUt believe me, I have a backup can just in case.

RF,

What you guys are sayin makes a lot of sense. Now that I think about my own experiences, it is always when the case is about 2/3 into the die that the pressure builds. I've always just lubed the whole outside case body out of habit I guess. Sure wouldn't mind having less to clean off
Has anyone here tried reaming out the neck sizing portion of their FL die so it basically becomes a body/decapping die and using this with a Lee neck die? That way I wouldn't have to lube necks either...I guess body dies aren't that expensive though. Thoughts on modifying a FL die this way?
