alternative case lube

Never thought of doing that. I seem to do pretty well just bumping the shoulders back 2 thousands. I can't see my brass wearing out too much faster. Primer pockets end up loose before the case wears out. The tool that really assisted me in setting my dies correctly was this.

http://www.larrywillis.com/

It changed the set up of the dies and really made me precise in shoulder set back so it is consistent and accurate. I get very little case stretch and with the belted mags, head separation is a thing of the past. You can do the same thing with the Hornady Comparator set up, but I hated reseting my calipers all the time, and this sits right next to my press and gives an easy to read digital heads up. I wasn't sure it would be worth it, but I wouldn't want to be without it now. Scotty

Sizing Wax spreads as you size brass, moving upward on the inside of the die.

I might have to look into this. Brass for my H&H is going to be kinda spendy; I'd like to get all the life out of it that I can.

Kurt, I love the tool. It can be used for measuring loaded rounds as well, but I tend to stick with calipers for that, but it is a great tool. Scotty

I note that it appears that I initiated this thread: I did not. I am generally hesitant about advocating homemade solutions for hand loading if a commercial product is commonly available, and especially when that product is superior. Imperial Sizing Wax is almost all I use for case lubrication. I have used Hornady One Shot and RCBS Case Lube, either of which works quite well. However, I wouldn't want anyone to imagine that I advocate going cheap in order to prepare cartridges; such would generally be a false economy.

I think you might be the victim of a former member getting the boot. I seem to remember a post before yours; yours was obviously a response to a question.

Dr Mike, isn't that one of the symptoms of old age in the modern age.....not remembering that you started a thread?

Is there a thread hanging off me? What were we talking about. Oh, look a squirrel! Nah, I'm not aging ... too much.

Kurt,

I'm not so old that I don't remember what happened. I was concerned that some individuals might have come to the dance late and thought that I was really addled. Okay, I mean absolutely forgetful. All right... Well, you know what I mean! :?

Doc, anybody with half a brain (I guess that describes me :) ) can tell you know you stuff, reloading wise.

This thread was started by milboltnut/boolit/longranger who was terminated.
Mike, sorry that the burden of thread starter falls on your shoulder. No real way to fix it.

Ah, I knew who started it, Jim. I'm just being cheeky tonight. I realised what had happened.
