I shared this with some of you via e-mail. I wanted to share the pictures with the rest of you!

OUCH!! Big headache!
2011 South Dakota bull elk taken during the current rifle season. The
additional pictures show evidence of this bull previously being in a fight
with another bull elk. The other elk broke his antler off in this elk's
head. The taxidermist is guessing that the broken antler had been embedded
at least one, if not two, years.
The "extra" antler was found to be
piercing the skull just behind the left eye of this elk but the surface had
healed to the point of not being noticeable.

I think I'd have that bull European mounted to show that piece of antler. What a story, and what tough SOB! How does the book score those, "internal eyeguards?"

As personally witnessed they can take a pounding.

Only premium bullets for me on elk!

Wowww. That must have hurt a bit. Looks like it migh have been interferring with the lower jaw also. Probably not a happy elk. Great bull also!

I'm guessing that bull welcomed being shot. Hope it was with a Nosler that it was dropped. He deserved the best.

And some think hunting is cruel. No animals die in a "nice" way in the wild. It is amazing how much punishment an animal can take and just kind of carry on.

Oh and congrats on that elk.
