An old muzzle loading rifle

yeah, a lot of people want me to make a gun for them but I have no time. Thought about getting a camera putting them up on the web and selling a few, but then we have chickens hatch, and calves born, wood to be chopped, syrup to be prepared, and a garden to attend to, so we decided farming is more fun than selling rifles

read a few more threads, will respond to some when I can, Got deer in the bottom field as thick as fleas, need to go get them away from the garden,

thanks for the interest boys, I will let you know if we decide to make them for the general public

Oh, I'm not really shopping right now, just wanted to get a peek at the lockwork you do. Always interested to see what folks are doing when they start making stuff themselves, especially when rifle builders who ask (and get) thousands of dollars for rifles and have multi-year waiting lists for work are NOT building their own locks. That tells me I want to see your locks and see what you know that they don't.

Oh Mr. onlymuzzzleloader, please reconsider and sell to the general public! That phone of yours has got to be ringing off the wall with folks wanting to have you make them a rifle. We all wait with baited breath hoping that we could have one of your fine shootin irons.

Same here. Would love to see some pictures of the stocks.. Anytime people start making their own stocks, I am always interested in that. What kinda timber are you using on the farm? Is this air dried timber that has been cut for awhile? Woodworking is a skill that is something that always interests me.
have a busy day ahead here on the farm but always glad to take a moment to educate someone who asks a question. we have walnut, maple, cherry, birch and all will make up a good rifle stock. Been air drying products for years, not just wood. maybe for the next lesson we can talk about natural fining products .

Whats your main wood you are building the stocks with? The walnut and maple sound pretty interesting. Those two would make some good looking stocks. Never heard of anyone making stocks outta Cherry, but I guess anything is possible. Any pictures of your blanks?

I know most furniture folks are air drying for 5-10 years before they even touch it. How long are you drying your stuff?

Good luck with it all. I am sure it is a busy time of the year on the farm.

whats your hurry young fellow. a well built muzzy will last for years. hang a few different types of wood blanks in a cool, dry place with good air flow maybe like a root cellar if you have a good one set up and forget about them. when it is time for a new rifle pick a blank and go to work. make sure the ends of the blanks are covered however

cherry has been used for years. i know Tommy believes that the only gun makers are in Pa , but have you ever heard of the Hershel House in Kentucky, they have made a rifle or two and some folks even think they are o.k. rifles oh and guess what they have made a few with cherry, be back a little later and see if you have any other questions and maybe read a few more muzzy threads twitch, twitch

Lynn, I have been reluctant to respond only because I know you feed on this type of post. But if you will notice only Tom, Charles, Scotty and now myself have responded to you, because we know your personal history, forum history and your forum etiquette or lack thereof. IMHO Charles had the best posts.

You dont seem to understand or dont want to acknowledge that Tom has a vast knowledge of the muzzleloader. I have read a lot of information Tom has provided about these guns from Pa, Virginia, AND Kentucky.

We know what your -twitch, twitch, means and believe me you have none of the aforementioned gentlemen--"on your fishing line", if anything they are subtly ( or for those who know you, not so subtly ) making fun of you and even that became boring for them and they have quit responding.

All of us who know you, know why you are angry with Tom. Your angry with him for the same reason the rest of us appreciate him. As busy as you claim to be on your farm, and as much fun as you claim that you have farming, hunting, and fishing on your farm, I have no idea why you spend so much time even thinking about Tom, especially since your dislike of this gentleman is simply because of a difference of opinion on an internet forum. You dont know the man, you have never met the man, I dont believe you have ever had any direct communicate with the man. With the exception of disagreeing with you on an internet forum, he has never done anything to you, or your family or your beloved farm.

Go wet a line in your new fish pond, make a new flinter, shot a deer in your wood lot with it, take a sip on that spring jug you are always sipping on and have a good life.

hunterny, yeah I have heard all this before. Tommy and his gang appear to have bamboozled everybody on three forums. No freedom of speech, no interchanging of thoughts. I would prefer to remain independent than to follow along blindly behind a dictator .

why cant we just burn a marshmallow, share a spring jug and listen to those cartridge boys over in the next county
bang bang bang do you hear them, there they go again bang bang bang

just took an apple pie out of oven, what a piece
